I believe it is the Cathedral in Milan, so italian is certainly a good guess. Looking at all those spires along the roof for one second and you begin to understand why Berlusconi has been having a headache lately  :p

there was this thread about this very subject. No movement yet, which is something I can definitely relate to.

Yeah, about that. I was waiting on inspiration for the tractor unit, and then got sidetracked by other things (like powerfists and spaceships). Part of the problem is that the Ordanati are supposed to be unique vehicles, so should they all really look alike for the tractor/carriage section? They are supposed to be huge (I always thought they were "titanscale") so determining the right size for the unit and scale for the details is hard.

I figured mine would come out a bit shorter and a lot wider than the old models, and perhaps a little longer. I had a design for an Armageddon in mind too, but never got around to drawing that one.

I'm off to look at pictures of old steam tractors etc to try and got inspired anew.....

Well, strictly speaking, according to the (admittedly newish) background in Epic: Swordwind (for the Baran Siege list), the light tanks (seigfrieds?) and the gun towing tractors that they use are both based off of the Land Crawler, an STC design discovered by the same tech adept that was responsible for the Land Raider and Land Speeder.

I think based on the above that one could reasonable expect that several Ordinatii would share similar tractor designs, assuming that these tractors were also based on this Land Crawler. Also, I'm sure similar logic could explain why the superstructures of the ordinatii might be nearly identical.

In the end, though, the real controlling factor is that it is far easier to make one chassis than it is to make 3+. That fact is the same now as it was when GW made the originals.

hmmm.

cross,

and

I'm assuming a rhino/chimera would be too small as tugs, But possibly a LandRaider Chassis with a cut down section on the rear?

The old Ordinatus tug was a bit smaller than a Chimera I think...

...what about a Malcador-sized tug?

I'd like to see a size comparison of the original model's tractor with one of these (the thing on the right).

I think it's a mistake to assume that the motive power of the ordinatus came from the front unit.

1) Each portion of the rear carriage had substantial mass, easily enough to house all sorts of power plants.
2) The front unit is referred to as the "control vehicle" in the catalogs.

However, that's not to say there can't be other Ordinatii that may have a primary mover in front, and more slender tracks behind. Just talkin' about the prior designs.
