Sorry for the slight tangent, but I think all the guns on BFG ships help to reinforce my view that BFG is really Age of Sail in space!

All the GZG ships for Full Thrust don't have individual weapons modeled either.

That's better lengthwise. However, I'm not sure it doesnt look TOO massive now. Would flattening the sphere to perhaps 1/3 the height and the hull to 1/2 decrease costs/be better on terms of volume? I know it's not true to the artwork, but there are many classes of Superdread, are there not? Would they all have the same hull plan, or would there be some variation?

I think part of the problem is the simple variation in hull plan between sizes. I like the long plans that youve done previously. When I read the Starfire Novels, I always thought of the Superdreads and Monitors as being taller than wide, never with the spherical front. Adding thickness adds to the apparent mass, as well.

From a practical PoV, spherical starships do make the most sense (minimal moment of inertia, so less force needed to maneuver, all-over overlapping fire arcs) but adding a big pole on and putting the engines on the end makes little sense. Ever tried maneuvering a shopping cart with everything at the very front? Not very efficient.

Less a complaint about the model, which is true to the art, as about the realism of the art itself. (I know, I know, its Sci-Fi)

Indeed (on many points). Some more tweaking is called for.

I'm happier with this one. Overall appearance is good, deviation from source art is minimal (elongated 'trunk'), printing cost reduced to $60.

Yeah, that's much better. Definitely bigger then the CA, but not so big it's unwieldy.

On another note, is there any art of CVEs from the 'Crusade' storyline? I've always been interested in their appearance. The 'launch bay with a bridge and engines' is a cool idea.

Nope, no CVE artwork as far as I know. Were there CVEs in Crusade? I thought that priority recommisions went to the Pegasus CVLs? Embarrasing to forget, considering that I playtested and proofread that supplement.

I wish I could find Jackie Southerland for more commission work. Of course, no more Klingon D7 knock-offs.

I have to admit, I've never looked at the supplement. From the novel, Crusade, the Sand Fly-class escort carrier features largely.

They are described as "They weren't the fleet or even light carriers of Battle Fleet, but tiny things, no larger than destroyers and thus suitable for rapid production. Their strike groups were smaller than an Essex class light carrier, but they were as big as the old Pegasus class..." (Crusade, p233)

Which is better? With or without extra plate doo-dads?

Yes, the Sand Fly is in the supplement.

Personally I tend to prefer more texture. But on the other hand it should blend in stylistically with the other models you've created so far.

PLate doo dads: it's an interesting new direction that could inform a lot of other designs.

An intermediate design. It may look a little too busy with respect to the rear triangular thingies.

New picture found. It shows how whopping big an SD is compared to a CL.

Obviously mine won't be this big. What am I, made of money?
