If you are in the UK where getting Simple Green is a bit of a faff, you can give simple household Dettol a go instead. Its super cheap and has worked very well on some plastic and metal minis I've stripped recently. The scrubbing stage is a bit messy, but it takes the paint off and isn't toxic like brake fluid.

Having had a go at using the ol' brake fluid, it is indeed a messy, smelly and feminine-anger inducing product.  I'm going to have a go with the dettol and the power spray I reckon.

Has anyone else had a problem using brake fluid and water? I thought I'd give my minis a quick splash of water once I'd taken them out of the brake fluid (to stop the smell) but they started going gungy and getting a white, blobby film on them.  It comes off with a bit of effort with as knife, but looks like I'll have to dunk them again.

Anyone else had this problem? Probably a reaction between water and the fluid.

I like fairy power spray,

does the job in 1-2 hrs, no fumes, no need for gloves etc and I've never had a  problem.

What's power spray?  :oh:  :upside:

It's widely available in the UK, I stocked up on 3 or 4 bottles from a poundshop but I've seen it in wilkinsons, morrisons, tescos's, asda ......

I've also tried brake fluid with mixed results but I really disliked what it did to my lungs and getting rid of it is a mission as it really shouldn't be washed/poured down the drain.

I've found synthetic (silicone-based rather than mineral-oil-based) brake fluid works fine and isn't particularly smelly or unpleasant to use. I don't know if it's safe to pour it down the drain, though.

Probably the same way I use Simple Green. Pour some of it into a container, enough to completely cover the minis and let them take a bath for a day or two.

It's like a thick gel in a spray bottle, I put my mini/minis in a plastic tub and then depending on how much paint i'm trying to get rid of either give them all a decent coating or keep spraying till their submerged in gel/foam.

I've left it anywhere between an hour and about 4 I think without any problems. An hour and a half is usually good.
