Hello all,

Well, I happened to be working a little on my fluff instead of studying (yeah, I am that moronic sometimes) and thought about subluminic speed. The galaxy is supposed to be extremwely wide et al with millions or thousands of millions of light years from one extreme to the other. Ok so far. Now we have the craftworlds. They are supposed to travel at SUB luminic speeds and NOT use the funky eldar network to travel around really fast. K as well.

Now we look at the map. Result: all the craftworlds should stil be located in segmentum obscuras if the eldar civilization died after life spawned on earth, let alojne if (like the fluff suggests) it was 12k years ago. Following that Yianden's fluff is non-consistant since they should be in an area that has never been attacked by tyranids et al.

Yeah, I know the fluff is full of inconsistencies, but I found that quite funny and worth sharing ;)

Cheers,

Xavi

PS: my astronomy knowledge is nigh to noneistent, so the text might contain errors, but I think that the main idea follows.

Hi Xavi,
the galaxy is 163,000 light years across, so in 12,000 years the craftworlds would not have gotten very far at subluminal speeds. I don't know the size of the segmentum Obscura, but I'd agree they would probably still be there.

If they travel at high subluminal speeds (e.g. 0.9 x speed of light, or even less) time on the craftworlds would pass slower than anywhere else. Perhaps this is why the Eldar live far longer than humans - they don't! They only appear to do so from the point of view of someone not travelling at high subluminal speeds!
:L
cheers!

Nah, the don't tavel that fast. In fact a regular vessel cat catch with the pretty easily so they are way under light speed. When it comes to the eldar they _do_ indeed live longer and more intensely than humans (even if they seem to have low sex according to the reasoning of one of my group mates about elves, perfection and reproduction rates), or at least so reads the fluff for them. They also are supposed to be really smart and wise et al, but they seem to fail noticing that you don't want to have only 30 cm in range for your troops if the enemy is closing to you and every lost live is precious and so its loss is a tragedy. LOL

So it seems I was correct. Great. Let's add an other thing to the list of 40k universer inconsistencies *Xavi opens his word document, scrolls down to page 4 thousand and writes an other sentence there*. Heh, as if this was the first one ;)

Health and a lot of sixes,

Xavi

PS: yeah, sometimes I am _that_ bored.

Hi!

The old fluff mentions that certain factions and such saw what was coming before the fall and left the maiden worlds. The big question is how early did the first one leave. Maybe the first left hundreds if not thousand of years before the fall.

Also were all craftworld made in the maiden worlds? We dont know.

You do have to remember that, although the majority of the Eldar were located on the maiden worlds (where the eye of terror is now) they had also explored much of the galaxy, and colonised many planets all around the galaxy.  It could be possible that the craftworlds not located around the eye area, are infact from different areas in the first place.

The craftworlds could have been a sanctuory from the psychic back lash of when Slaanesh was born. And this was the reason for the Eldar on the otherside of the galaxy to board the vessels too.  Not so much to escape, but to protect themselves.

The Exodites had a similar protection, with the worlds spirits.

Of coarse, I'm just theorising.

Ahem... Maybe the ORIGINAL pre-fall warpgate network allowed larger ships (craftworlds) to pass. Also, since the warp also affects time as well as distances some of the Craftworlds could well have flung far in time as well as space in the cataclysm.

Bear in mind that the original craftworlds were much smaller and have since grown by addition of other craft and some creative bonesinging.

None of the craftworlds were built there. There are no shipbuilding facilities in the maiden worlds since only Exodites live there.

Hi!

Good point Mojarn on the "extra-large" warp gates, that would explain a lot.
