..I use a new Sony P-52 CyberShot I got from Amazon, after Jimbo here on the forums reccomended it... 3.2 megapixel, 2x zoom.. really great for all sorts of pics I've found, and it was an excellent price too! Thanks again!
..I'm still a relative novice, having only had it for a few weeks now, but the others guys here will definatly give you some good advice I'm sure...

I just bought myself a digi camera. Its working out really well at the moment.
It's an Olympus C-350 Zoom, 3.2MegaPixels, with 10x digital and optical zoom. Also has a 1.8" LCD screen (most are 1.5).
I dont know much about cameras, so this site Cybershadow showed me helped.

The only problem so far with my camera is how quick it eats batteries. This can be fixed by using rechargeable NiMH batteries, which I've now bought. Its something to do with the Voltage or something. Alkaline batteries lose it over the period of use, NiMH keep a high voltage which only drops just before the battery is dead.

Yeah, with the Sony cameras, they come with a nice pair of AA NiMh batterys- they do last for ages- I took my camera away for 6 days or so and took loads of pics and movie clips and it only ran down on the last day.. The thing that does really kill them I've found is using the flash a lot...

NiMh batteries are the best for Digi Cams, I think I have four sets of 4 of them. They are also good for CD players, as you get loads more play time!
Mine is a Cannon Powershot A20, a little older now, at 2.1 MP, but is good enough for what I want to do, and for family holiday pics!
Cheers
Chris

Mines only slightly better at 2.3 and it does everything I could possibly need! As long as I dont @shoot from the hip@, but actually take time to take a decent shot, its a brilliant camera.
Fujifilm MX-2700 BTW

Quote (chaos_lord @ 07 2003 Nov.,12:28) | What type of cameras, do you guys use to photograph, I am going to get a new digital camera but I am not really sure what I am looking for (ie how many mega pixels would be good, optical zoom/digital zoom etc.) | I have a whole section on my website about photography
http://www.ifelix.co.uk/phomin.html
One piece of advice, a digital zoom is not a feature you should be looking for, the optical zoom is the key.
The more pixels the better as it allows you to cheat... without having to get into close.
The key with a high megapixel camera, is not to get in too close and crop the relevant shot as follows
Original Shot

Imagine this is the raw picture from the camera (I have resized to show what I mean more easily - in reality the ratio is something like 1600x1200 pixels), all I really want is a picture of the Hydra (as shown next)

Using the crop tool I get the following image (and I don't need to resize).

You should go for a camera with a minimum of 3.2 megapixels, the zoom is less important but if you do need one go for a optical zoom.
In terms of quality, you can get much better quality (and for a lot less money) buy a proper 35mm SLR and when you get the pictures developed have them scanned onto cd-rom (or scan them in using a scanner). However digital cameras have the advantage that you can quickly view and upload them.
Remember also that if you want to show them on this forum you will need to invest in some webspace (and most free webspace will not allow you to link images to forums such as this one).

actually when I got my Sony, it was around ?700 (read $1000) and I know you can get a better model for around ?200 (read $300)
The other thing that is worth paying for is a proper battery one which can be recharged, my Sony I just plug into the mains and recharge rather than AA Duracells etc...
I also have a Sony DV which can also take stills and that has an extended battery which seems to last weeks and weeks of video and stills!
