Good thread. Gives some perspective. Heavy Bolter 2009 has about 12 peeps attending now. Given it's in Austraila (population 20 million), that strikes me as a very good number--well done, dobbsy, if you're reading this!

For comparison, does anyone know what sort of numbers is average for a WH40K tournament?

WH40k has a limit of about 80ppl, that's most cut off points, and sometimes a lot of people miss out on spots.

Unless it's Arcanacon - didn't that have like 120-140 spots or something ridiculous?

Komplete Fanatic Epic in 2007 here in Melbourne had 18 as well. It seems like a magic number.

The biggest tournies are the blood bowl ones.

In France, Epic tournaments and week-ends can gather between 10 and 20 or more players.

For Lyon 2009, there will be 22 players (both Epic Armageddon and NetEpic players) plus 2 referees.

The biggest tournies are the blood bowl ones.

For one-day tournaments that's true.

But for number of players, the Warhammer 40,000 Grand Tournament gets 700-750 players, enough that they have to split it up into three heats before having a final round for the top third of players from the heats.
