No it was one of the few survivors of an air assault.

My question is do you really get it's worth in that one assault. You need to have expensive target for it to be worth all the points it carries.

I also always have a strike cruiser to complete the package. Either its a dev drop pod to soften the target area followed by an air assault, or its a full scale drop and empty LC, or its a planetfalling loaded landing craft (potentially into the same area as a dev drop) to act as a forward deployment base. The dev is optional, the barrage has a similar effect.

So yes the points are a lot but its not a one trick pony. And its fearless :)

Oh and there is nothing like it for barging infantry out of cover!

Parking a Landing Craft on turn 3 on the opponents Blitz is a nice tactic to contest it and annoy him :D

As empty one? Cause that kind of reasoning is why we don't allow landing aircraft to contest conditions. The only one rules change that we in here always use.

So you have to have say a single stand survivor of a formation on board to capture teh objective? is that not a bit artificial?

It's part of the rules, so if you're not using that rule then you're not playing Epic.

That would naturally tend to sway your impression of the unit, if you're not actually playing Epic.

E&C, was that really necessary?

This is Adeptus Astartes subforum. We all fight for the Emperor. Leave the bickering for Tau discussions.

I'm not bickering but pointing out a fact in an admittedly very blunt manner ; if you're not using the standard Epic rules, your judgement of balance in the standard rules may be impared.

Then we all agree, one way or another.

EDIT:

Y'know what, I was being a bit of a dick. Sorry for the implied slight Hena.

One final point; TRCs plan involved lots of Devs.... which I'd like to up the cost of to 275pts!

*choke*

Will there be nothing left? At this rate its relying on bikes next (still not at the point of having to have tacticals yet :) ).

TRCs point seems to be that you can create a massive 1200pts+ air assault. You can but opponents are not going to oblige by providing a massive target, surely it's an unnecessary risk and a waste of activations? Besides, what difference does 25pts make when we're talking about a 1200pts+ activation? If your going to do it 25pts is small change!

Surely the threat of the strike cruiser barrage will cause you to hide the whole army in a piece of terrain somewhere

The bargin basement attack incidentally is 800 points - 3 lots of scouts, their rhinos and the lander (950 with chaplains of course).

I dunno really, its more a case that I get x unit for x job. The tacticals, what are they for compared to bikes, landspeeders, terminators, warhounds, devestators and so on.

Anyway next tourney I go to I'm taking 2 landing craft and hope to play you :)

I would like to put Tacticals to 275pts, and frankly think it should probably be that way for all Marine lists. :)
