Hi - Looking for advice on how to take on Tau - My titan legion get wiped out by them every time and switching to using assault troops doesnt help as their close in defense is on a par with the ranged weapons...  Also for the hammer heads in the test info the rail rguns indicate they hot on 5+ but on the list at the end it says a 3+ penetrating etc - seems a real deal for the points...

Anyway a frustrated Legion commander looking for advice - thanks!

A little gamey, but all their formations are expensive and have low break points.  Start with the most expensive formation, kill enough to get the points and move on.

Tau probably work well against TL armies because they can concentrate their limited, but very effective, firepower against a small number of high value targets.  My only advice for a pure Titan army would be to make sure you maximise your range....any weapon with less than 100cm is probably right out against the Tau. If you are playing AMTL, I'd go for a Mechanised company or two, Hydras+T-Bolts, possibly Marauders and lots of Crusaders

Hammerheads look awesome....until you realise they are 75 points each.  The only one that hits on a 3+ is the Mk III variant with a 35cm range.  Are you working off the latest list on the Wiki?

If you go to the WikiWikiWar site (see link at the top of the page) and go to file galleries there is a NetEpic Army Lists section that has the absolute latest version of the army lists (until Gold is released).  The Tau list has changed pretty extensively from the original V5.0 list.  If interested, you can go back a couple of years through the threads here and you should be able to see where a lot of the changes were tested.
