I was in wal-mart today when I happened across an interesting product. ?In the section with the models I found a the testors custom decal system. ?It contains two 4"x5.5" pieces of ink jet decal paper (one clear, one white), a can of ink bonding spray and a sample version of testors decal design software. All this for about six bucks. ?I have done custom decals in the past and they have cost me up to twenty dollars to do one sheet. ?The ink jet paper alone can run three dollars a sheet. ?I'm gonna play around with it a bit and I'll let you know how it works.

Interesting concept. I think that to make excelent decals you would have to be either excelent with a graphics package, or use pictures and graphics from the internet.
Indeed, keep us updated on how it goes!
Cheers
Chris

Meng,
That sounds cool.
Let us know how your results work out.
Signius (who is preoccupied with his new house) makes decals with sheets in his printer. I remmber seeing some he made for Tas's FleshTearers last time I visited.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!
Thats a VERY novel concept. While many have made decals, I dont think I ever saw one where you can make it yourself. I think everyone has been in the situation where you wish they made "x" decal but they didn't make that particular one.
Creativity is alive and well.

I've been making them for along time. Mostly for scale models. It's really not as hard as you might think. A decent graphics program is all you really need. I use paint shop pro 7. The prohibitive factor was always the cost, but with this little kit it's really no longer an issue.

Hi!
Seekermeng, do you have examples of any decals you made?
Perhaps we could make a small library of them and share them? I bet home made design are a lot cooler than the pre-made ones.

I have a file somewhere that has letters and numbers that i did in epic scale. Almost all the others have bee for 1/48 up tp 1/25 scale. If anyone is interested I'll make the letters and numbers available when I find them.

I had a chance to play around with the testors decal set this evening and I must say I'm very impressed. The paper takes exceptional detail and release very quickley and easily. The finished decals go on smooth and conform to the surface of the model with no setting solution. Here are a couple of pics of a rhino I dressed up in some generic decals I wipped up.
This first pic shows the door emblem, a pheonix. If you look closely you can see that the decal settled right down into the space between the doors.
In this pic you can see the detail I was able to achieve with my graphics. That "A" in the yellow portion of the company marking is 1mm tall and the pheonix emblem on the front hatch is just as clear as the one on the side. This is one of the best decal systems I've worked with. It's simple, cheap and produces great results.
P/s I can not find my number and letter file so I will whip up another.

Where can you find that kit? I have never seen anything like that in the local hobby shop.
