If you want official, go to the GW website and go to Specialist Games and then Specialist Games Resources. You will find the Marine list there.

That should do you for now   :))

When you get annoyed at some costs of units and the lack of developments, then come back to this one I guess.

I hope this helps

Cheers....

I am new to this game and I am starting to get frustrated trying to simply put an army together.

which list do I use?

Is this the list i should use? Or should i use the one in the book?

I must admit I am always baffled by this attitude. Its simply go to the GW website and everything there is allowed. Everything else is fan made.

As to whether you should use a fan list or not, that's where your discretion comes in! So people on this forum, the French group and EpicUK all test the variant lists and come up with their own balanced versions.

I would liken it for todays youth to computer games and modifications.

All I want to do is put a Space marine army together and it seems there are multiple lists. I have purposely avoided any experimental lists, fan lists etc, all i want is to use the official list.

It is on the GW website, free to download. In the Epic Errata also on the GW website it lists changes to And They Shall Know No Fear, the Warlord and the Reaver Titan.

That's the official list. Nothing else.

Then you have here the online international concensus on how to make it more balanced and use all the options better. Up to you if you use it.

Then you have on the EpicUK site what the they thought would do the same. This is what you use in UK tournaments.

Then you have the same on the French site.

As you are in Oz I recommend sticking to the GW website, unless you and your gaming group decides to use one of the three options above (how is your French?).

Thanks mate, that clears it up for me.

I think I had the wrong percertion of this website, I had thought that it had taken over from GW in a semi-official capacity for the purpose of continuing the development of EA especially with some of the fantastic productions that I have seen around the site.

Now I have it in the correct perspective it all becomes clearer :)

Well, some wish it were so :)

Still hows your french, maybe they have the best lists :)

I can understand the issue as a fellow newbie. After a fair bit of searching around I'd highly suggest as a newbie you just use the compendium lists as they are. They are mostly fairly well balanced and well put together.

If you want "official" then you just use the GW site stuff. But those lists have a fair few balance issues and various other problems. Thats not to say they are unusable, it's just that the ones that have been updated are a bit more, well... better.

The key thing to remember is that unlike 40k which is an alive game, bloodbowl which is a semi alive game, epic is very very very dead when it comes to "official" development and support.

The player base has taken it upon themselves to continue support and work on the game so it can be excused that its not the most organised or unilateral worldwide effort. They don't have any sort of GW support like bloodbowl has. It'll be really useful for tournament organisers and newbies if in the next few months the Taccom community can get it together and put out the much mooted army list book, as a statement about which lists are good to go and which still need more work, as this is the hardest part of using Taccom as a rules source at the moment.

since so many people have a problem w/ this couldn't we have a thread w/ official rules and army lists right on the main page. i'm sure this has been suggested but if people are having such a hassle it might be worth looking into.
while were at it maybe clean up some of the "pinned" stuff in some of the threads. do we really need a "could this be an imperial drop ship" dated 2004 cluttering up  the EA link?

I just wanted to point a few things out, particularly with the Black Legion.

1. Pg 103. "Space Marines" have reinforced armor, and fearless? Doesn't sound quite right to me...
2. For 25 more points, you can loose RA:
for Disrupt on the autocannon and +1FF (noise marines)
+2CC and -1FF (Berzerkers) *Edit* and no more autocannon
+1 save, +1CC (Plague Marines)*Edit* and no more autocannon
-1CC, no more autocannons (Thousand Sons)
See the problem?
3. *Edit* removed.

These are 3 big things that I don't think have been mentioned yet. More latter.

3. There aren't any Terminators, and Chosen somehow have Thick Rear armor and 2 Reaper Autocannons?

Welcome to the boards, Notanoob!

Just to address this point: Chaos "Chosen" *are* Chaos Terminators in the Black Legion list!  It's a name hold-over from earlier 40k incarnations, I believe.

+2CC and -1FF (Berzerkers)

On this one, you missed out the fact that they do not have a shooty weapon either

so that is 2 negatives to 2 positives.

Thanks for pointing that out frogbear, 'zerks and Plague Marines don't have an autocannon either.

And thank you to, Chroma, for the welcome and the info! I've edited my first post.

However, I hope that these corrections don't distract people from the point that there are still some things that need to be worked on in the Black Legion list.

Yeah there's just the typo that regular marines have the thousand sons marines special rules as a copy paste error.

It's not.  As Fortis notes, this is a typo.  Basic CSMs have neither Fearless nor Reinforced Armor.

Also, just to be clear, these are French ERC (a fan group) rules, not the official stats.  You probably realized that, but there is longstanding confusion and I wanted to point it out just in case.

Neal, I think the list lists in that are in fact NetERC lists ....

Sigh... that was my understanding too... ?!

On that note though, what happend to the pinned post Chroma had about an NetERC army list compilation?? (was maybe using this Compendium as a base?)

Has it just been deleted or something? I can't find it?

The NetERC plans and organisation (or lack of it) is very confusing and frustrating... if experienced players can't work out what is going on, how are newbies supposed to?!
Still we have this confusing tangle of threads and information.

Whatever happend to the plan of...?

1. Central clean NetERC webpage with clear statement of purpose, and easy access to:
2. NetERC Rulebook, and NetERC Army List Book.
