I'd like to know the rough amount of anti-air capabilities players take at 3000pts assuming NetEA mods (So losing Fire Prism AA).

Looking at the Biel-Tan list AA capabilities are much more expensive than other races. It's a minimum of 250pts (Falcons with upto 2 Firestorms or a Cobra). I would be looking at Falcons with 2 Firestorms as the main AA fire. That would be complimented by Revenants or a Phantom. I'd like to squeeze a Vampire in, but would Revenants and Nightwings be a better combination.

Enemy aircraft would be in the region of a maximum of 4 Thunderbolts and 2 Thunderhawks (but could easily be nothing at all). I don't have any particular list or strategy yet, just looking at the general level of AA people find appropriate.

Hi!

The guy I usually play against fields 2 units of falcons with 2 flak, and 2 units á 3 Nightwings at 3000 points.

Gives him absolute air superiority. Unless I'm lucky...

I usually only take Nightwings + Revenants or Nightwings + Phoenix + Vamp-Raider

I played yesterday at 3000 points eldar + 3000 points SM vs 3000 points cultists+3000 chaos SM, I fielded 2 Falcon formations (with 4 falcons and 1 Firestorm each) and 3 Nightwings, supported by 2 hunters and 1 thunderhawk. It was enough (versus 2 traitor Marauders and 2 traitor Thunderbolts, and a chaos altar and 2 traitor hydras on the ground).

IMO the best Eldar AA is the air supperiority fighter: the awesome Nightwing.

I usually field two Falcon formations with 1-2 Firestorms each... and, occasionally, a single flight of Nightwings.

Titans on the board also really help for AA coverage.

2 Falcon fms with 2 x firestorms each and a Phantom Titan.

I also have a Vampire but tend to use it as a bomber.

I'd almost certainly throw in 1 set of Falcons with 2 Firestorms. Of the rest it's between a Revenant Pair, Phantom/Warlock Titan, Cobra, Nightwings, Phoenixes and a Vampire. I could throw in a second set of falcons with a single Firestorm.

They certainly made it difficult with Titan/Air formation costs.
If I take a Titan then I would probably take the Vampire. Revenants is trickier, I do like the Vampire for an Aspect delivery but Nightwings are the top interceptor.

I own all the armies that I would most likely end up having a game with. The opposing armies would be chosen from Orks (max 10 Fighta Bombers), Dark Angel/AMTL (shared 7 Thunderbolts, 3 Thunderhawks), Tyranids (No air), Squat (No air) and Eldar (3 Nightwings, 3 Phoenixes, 2 Vampires).

I used Biel-Tan Eldar in my last game against TRC.  I went with Revenants and 2 Falcon formations with one Firestorm each.  End of turn 2 I had no AA left  :sad:

One lot of falcons got clipped my a barrage template, and broke, never to rally, the other got broken by hydras (Oh, the irony) that doubled and managed to kill 2, they never rallied.  Then when the Revenants were brought low by TRC's (3!) Rough Riders the AA was gone.

TRC's 2 Tbolt flights wre then able to dish out some punishment on the light and squishy Eldar formations.

Moral of the story: I wrote under my Eldar army after the game ALWAYS TAKE INTERCEPTORS!

Eldar AA formations are small, low armoured, initiative 2 (so rally on 4 or 5) and struggle to cover the large area of operations that the Eldar like to use.

I can see what you mean. It's either go with less squishy AA like the Phantom/Warlock and hope it survives or take Nightwings and limit the Titan option to Revenants (or no titans at all and take Vampires).

Falcons + Firestorms are relatively easy to suppress so have to hide to maintain a credible umbrella. Cobras can also provide a form of umbrella but also tend to need to hide. Probably the best AA as such is two or possibly even three Night Wing formations, with additional ground formations to suit.

how about a formation of nightspinners w/ one firestorm? I'm not sure if this is disallowed in the ruleset you play (I tend to lose track of all the different versions), but both the Compendium and 2008 Handbook have that as an option for Biel-Tan.

They're not particularly robust, but given that they can hide away with their indirect fire barrages, they should last a little longer :)

that, plus one falcon fm w/ 2 firestorms and a formation of nightwings should provide reasonable cover at not much cost. Good chance that 2/3 of it will be gone by the end of turn 2 though!
