An excellent idea! Unfortunately, I don't have that much stuff left to do for this army.

So, here's the Forlorn Hope.

To aid in their sneaky scouting, their armour is predominantly green, with brown thigh plates and forearms. Only the shoulder pads reflect the army's usual colours.

I originally tried painting the top-knots red, but it proved one colour too many and they started looking less like veteran Chaos Space Marines and more like clowns.

So that's 4,500 points painted up. I'm going away tomorrow for a few days, and when I get back I'll be painting up a Warhound for my AMTL. After that, though, I'll get back to painting the remainder of this army. Still to do:
- Character stands for the retinues (Icon Bearers and Champions, plus extra Sorcerers and Lords so that any retinue can be led by either type).
- Daemons (8 stands of Flamers)
- Hell Talon fighter-bombers
- Another formation of Terminators
- A third Decimator

This should bring me up to 6k points painted (assuming I take several Daemonic Pacts), after which I won't have anything left to paint until I buy some more stuff. Although I might see about making some objective markers from bits.

Well, after a short break, I'm back to painting the remainder of my CSMs.

I've finished off the retinue using (mostly) Imperial models with a few character stands. From left to right, a Champion, a Sorcerer Lord (as an alternative to the Lord I've already done) and an Icon Bearer:

And here's a rear-view of the Champion, since his cloak isn't visible from the front:

Next up will be characters for the other two retinues.

And here they are, a variety of character stands for the other two Chaos Space Marine retinues. One Champion and one Icon Bearer each, plus an extra Lord and Sorcerer Lord so that each retinue can take either.

The Champions are Space Marine Chaplains, with the Crozius Arcanum removed and replaced with a sword from a Bloodletter. The Icon Bearer's Rhino has a chaos rune on the top hatch, which isn't that easy to see in the photo.

Coming next: flamers.

Looking good, the chaplain conversion makes an interesting and distinctive alternative.

Thanks, unfortunately that's all the plastic Chaplain models I had, so if I expand the army I won't be able to do any more. Still, unless you're summoning Daemons, Champions aren't that good anyway, and I don't use Daemons that much, so I probably won't need any more anyway.

Talking of Daemons, here are some Flamers:

I must admit, I'm not completely happy with these. I was aiming to give the impression of shifting colours blending into each other, but I think they've ended up looking a bit messy. I guess they'll do, though.

Next up will probably be some Terminators, after which I'll have no infantry left to do.

From what i can see in the pictures i certainly would not say they were messy, you can clearly see hints of purple and lighter blue within the core blue colour of the body. The highlighting on the muscle groups on the back is particularly effective.

Thanks.

I'm afraid I haven't been all that busy painting while TacComms was down, but I did manage to get one more formation done; another formation of Chaos Terminators:

They're pretty similar to the previous lot, except for the design on the Icon Bearer's banner.

This leaves me with no infantry for this army left unpainted, which is rather satisfying.

Coming up next will be either a pair of Hell Talons or some Rhinos.

And here, as promised, is a pair of Hell Talon fighter-bombers:

I did say Rhinos next, but actually I'm not sure whether it'll be them or another Decimator. It'll almost certainly be one or the other, though, as I haven't got anything else left to do.

Wonderful army. I love how much thought you put into your army building, like 9 models in a squad, chaos terminator models as squad leaders etc. Excellent painting and neat conversions helps too, of course, but your army really stands out as something special.

^ Thank you. Some of it was based on trying to get the most out of not many models and spending as little money as possible. For example, if, when I was starting this army, I could have afforded to just buy as many infantry boxes as I needed/wanted, I'd probably have just used the Chaos Terminator models exclusively. I'm quite glad I didn't though, as I rather like how they've turned out.

Definitely. I have six more Rhinos to paint, after which the army will be done (for now), and I'll see about a few whole-army pics.

In the meantime, I've painted up a third Decimator:

I was never entirely happy with the paint jobs on the other two, so I've touched them up a little bit. I've added a little extra highlighting and re-done the flames on the sides (they've become much easier to do since the Foundation paints came out). Here's the whole Assault Company, with the new tank in the centre:

As I say, coming up next will be some more Rhinos, then some pics of the whole army.

Those look great  :agree:

Ive never had the confidence to work marine backpacks into my own conversions as its such a distinctive shape, but i think you've pulled it of here.

It took about three glances to work out what they were, that works rather nicely.  Got a few badly cast Stormblades that could do with a similar treatment methinks!

Thanks. It is surprising how well they fit in, isn't it? I wish I could claim credit for the idea, but alas, although I thought of basing the models on Stormswords independently, most of the details of how to modify them were borrowed.

In other news, I've painted up six new Rhinos, enough to transport another retinue, with optional Champion and Icon Bearer:

Which brings me up to 6,000 points painted.

Whole-army shots coming (hopefully) later today.
