Thanks again for the comments!

I suspect I’m more likely to go for a more conventional army, but your super-heavy army could be an interesting possibility to think/test out TRC. I have access to these:

2 Storm Serpents
2 Cobras
6 Void Spinners (5 requiring putting together and painting, at least as far as 5 colours)
4 Scorpions

'fraid so too the no air/space too. I can have access to 33 Falcons and 8 Fire Storms, plus 3 Fire Prisms though.

I really need to finish my accursed Adorno essay ASAP so as to be able to get painting and playing...

Well, as an alternative if you want to try it, as TRC says you could go for groups of a Guardian and three WE or Falcon formations for 900; 3600 giving 16 such formations, so Shining Spears (400) for 17 formations with the vital Supreme commander.

Ok so that provides 12x 'formations'. The 'naked' Guardians need transport, so Storm Serpents (and a gate) leaving 200 points. Personally I would take 2x Falcons for AA, and possibly the Prisms leaving 6 other formations. If you take both Cobras (which also have AA, and are usefull as anti-titan and anti-infanty) that leaves 5, so perhaps 4x Void Spinner and a Scorpion? The 'spare' 200 points can be used as a set of bikes, War Walkers or two Rangers; or they can provide upgrades to the Guardians (Heavy Weapons platforms) or even a Vampire (if you have it). so we get something like:-

400 Shining Spears
600 Guardians (x4)
500 Storm Serpents (x2)
250 Scorpion
1000 Void Spinner (x4)
500 Falcons with Firestorms (x2)
500 Cobras (x2)
200 Vampire
 50 Gate
(17 activations)

However, we now have 5x warhosts and 11x supports so one is surplus. Adding the points as Wraithlords to one Guardian, you change that line to read
300 Guardians (x2)
300 Guardians + Wraithlords

Giving 16 activations and 9x WE (and only 3 Void Spinners to make). Of course you could swap things around a bit to match your preferences, or major on Falcons for firepower as Rug says.

I'm running the following list at 4000 pts:

Avatar -
Wraithgate:50
Aspect warhost inc Exarch and Autarch+ wave serpents - 600
Aspect warhost (Warp spiders) inc 2 x Exarchs - 350 (Ride in Vampire)
Guardian warhost inc 3 heavy weapons + 3 support weapons - 200
Guardian warhost + Wraithguard - 300
Jetbikes - 200
Falcons inc 2 x firestorms - 250
Falcons inc 2 x firestorms - 250
Voidspinner - 250
Storm serpent - 250
Storm serpent - 250
Warlock Titan (Powerfist) - 850
Vampire - 200

Slightly short on activations but still plenty (12 is pretty ok for 4000pts) all units are tricksy and resilient.  I like to go for a good mix of firepower and engagement power.  The webway in this list allows me flexibility and redundancy and allows you to tailor your strategy to the enemy you're facing.  If I'm playing marines with a lot of airdrop potential or an army that you know is going to make a grab for your blitz i can leave shooty guardians on overwatch in cover with avatar potential to guard the blitz.  Against armies with enough artillery to be a threat to the storm serpents early doors i can set the jetbikes up on the table too.  Both these scenarios also leave the opponent guessing about where the remaining webway units are going to emerge as i have 3 portals and 2 units in the webway and provide me with redundancy should one be killed or blocked.  I also have plenty of wraithsight units and so should be able to manage a 2 retain assault of doom in every turn of the game.

I would definately invest in a vampire.  Superb aircraft.  Excellent for air assault and great for harrassing broken armoured units and for stripping pesky void shields.

You know, I never realised until now that EoV don't come under the 1/3 pts rule :) That changes things a bit!

if you check earlier entries you will note that mine had 8x WE, and I think others had even more.

Thanks for the advice previously everyone! In the end I decided to scrap some of my previous self-imposed restrictions and put together a more rounded list inspired by - but different to - those here, which I hope will play alright.

I played my first couple of games using Eldar Saturday versus Man of Kent's (drop) Marines and ('nidzilla') Tryanids. Got rather mauled by the marines; I played my soup bubbles too cautiously and didn't really know how to react or what to do with them at first. Second game I did something unexpected which the slow 'nids struggled to react to, and I was pleasantly surprised to pull off a 3-0 win with a fair amount of 'nids dead for not so many Eldar. Slow close combat troops to fast skimmers is probably a good match-up for me though. Learnt lots though and enjoyed the games

Anyone fancy a 4k tournament game vs Eldar on Vassal one evening Tues-Fri? I could be free anytime between 5:30pm and midnight ish (GMT). I should warn you I'm a bit of an inexperienced player and I've downloaded Vassal but not used it before, so you would likely have to talk me through some things. I'm keen to get as much practise in as possible.
