Why "planetfall"?

Why not "as if they were disembarking from a transport vehicle on the ground"?

Yes, I think letting them have a separate activation after landing is a bit much, considering air transported troops don't get that. Surely a normal ground attack fits the bill?

Ok, let me rein this in for everyone. We are not going back and re-deciding all the decisions that got us to this point. One of the big reasons this list has not made progress is a near refusal to let go of the past and move forward.

If you want to read all about the decision, look up the work that the community did on air assets.

Consider this idea dead.

This was the note on it from earlier lists:
Notes: Transport (may carry four of the following units: Gun Drones, Heavy Drones); the Tiger Shark cannot land (and
hence not air assault or embark troops) but can disembark Drones in the normal way after its approach move is completed.

That is still the rule in 5.1!

This thread is pretty pointless, tigersharks already have drone-carrying rules.

If it was supposed to be removed it hasn't been...

Early versions of the TS had the ability, but there were inconsistencies with the core rules and how the TS operated.

When it came time to redesign the TS-basic kit, as a community, it was decided to drop the ability and focus on the air support role. In earlier versions, there were people who used drones + TS, but in the past years, no one has, nor thought that it was important.

Hence it was dropped to reduce the number of special rules.

In the 5.1 version of the Tau list the Tigershark does have the ability to transport Gun Drones though.

Is the rule's inclusion in the list a mistake, or merely a relic that cannot be used because Gun Drone formations don't actually exist anymore?

EDIT: Ninja'd by my own brother.

Hehe. And i thought i was the only one who occasionally forfets features of his own armylists :D

Nevertheless i would welcome to see Tigersharks as the only means to use Drone Formations.

I've done a bit of searching and the comments seem to be buried in long threads.
Can you summerise and point to the posts if you can remember where they are? Seems quite unusual for the tau list that in the few months I was away an issue came up with them then was resolved. Was it to do with the popcorn nature of 4 drones for 75 points as they were at some point? Was anyone actually using tigersharks as opposed to A-10's? In the long air thread no one objects but they seem to ask should people bother with it rather than be against it.

TRC: Gun Drone formations were dropped basically because of a miscommunication. Most people agreed that they were overpowered because of the wording of their expendable rule. The favoured change was to bring it into line with the generally accepted version that means they're not expenable if there are no non-expendable units in the formation. However, the ACs didn't pick up on this and instead removed the formation as the easy option.

Technically the tigershark can still carry drones, there's just no drone formation for it to actually carry.

I suppose you could buy drones as an upgrade, then if everything but the drones died you could fly them around in a tigershark.

I don't think the Tigershark is allowed to embark units.

You could buy a FW cadre add drones and then not deploy the FWs and put the drones in the Tigersharks, kind of expensive at 300 points for those drones then though...
