In the Tau armylist there are big praetorian fliers called Manta & Moray.

They have a weapon called:

Fore Burst Cannons   35cm AttackDice6 To-hit 5+ TSM 0
Aft Burst Cannons    35cm AttackDice6 To-hit 5+ TSM 0

In the rules on these praetorians is says "For the purpose of targering fliers, the Burst cannon on the Moray/Manta are considered to be Turret weapons, though this does not override their exsisting arc of fire"

THis makes me believe that they can be used against fliers. It is not stated in the list of vehicles though - strange

Other vehicles are equipped with burst cannons. For example other fliers, two skimming superheavies and some Infantry...

Would be thankful for some help here.

I'm with you on the interpretation meaning that they can target flyers as they possess the turret ability. However the Fore/Aft thing is complicating things. Perhaps if you impose a restriction to targeting flyers within the turrets arc. That's what I would do anyway. However, it's quite possible it's just a contradictory typo, in which case you'll need to wait for one of the higher beings who writes this stuff.

I agree with you. The aft turret shoots back 180 degrees and the fore turret shoots 180 degrees forward. I also think that the issue can be described slightly better in the stats of the preatorian. The burst cannon on Barracudas "might" be considered a AA weapon.. But now Ill play as it is not.

The intention when I wrote the rules for the Manta and Moray Burst cannons was that the "fore" cannons shoot only into the front 180 degrees and the "aft" only shoot into the back 180 degrees but they can soot at other fliers.  The first time we tried them out the Manta and Moray were woefully vulnerable to enemy fliers.  The addition of the Burst Cannons as "turreted" allows them to at least shoot at enemy fliers.

If you use the Alternate Flyer rules it is clear.  Manta and Moray are Praetorians, and the Burst Cannon are turreted weapons, so yes they can shoot at enemy flyers. :)

If you use the old rules it is also clear....no they can't.
