here's some scaled down thigh sections in comparison with the originals, I prefer the smaller ones:

I'd agree.  Subtle, but nice.  I imagine once you've made the whole thing there may well be some tweaking in terms of overall proportions.  10% longer thigh here, 5% bigger head there etc, just so it looks 'right'.

Though with all of us lot chiming in 'right' is a very flexible thing!

Have you considered drawing up the original mk 1 carapace, then scaling it to match your work, just to see what it would look like? Obviously, adjustments would have to be made to accomodate the new weapons, but starting from the original and modifying that to match your details might be quicker than the reverse.

Looking and the FW Reaver, it strikes me that FW did a lot of work to take the original model and modify it to actually look like a functional machine. There are specific details that they kept: shoulder armor supported by the arm weapon mounts, shoulder armor higher than the central carapace, two upper leg members per leg, extreme-flare of lower leg armor, conduit tubing loops between the legs, conduit tubing 'mutton chops' on the head, external upper-weapon mount on the carapace, etc. All of these result in the updated version still looking like a Reaver.

Of course, with the reaver there was only one original model to adapt, unlike this case where there have been 3 different models. I say, if the mk 1 is the intended inspiration, go all out, man. Look at the original model and make a list of all of the things that would let people immediately recognize the identity of the model, then incorporate those into your design.

Not everything has to make real-world sense, either, like with those armored tubes you mentioned earlier in the thread. As long as the thing looks like it can mechanically function as a walker in the same way as the reaver and the warhound do, then the other things (armor, weapon mounts, etc) just need to serve to identify the model.

Is the Mark 1 especially the inspiration? I assumed this was a bit of everything and drawing most themes from the newer FW Mars titans.

Legs look much better that way :agree:

I prefer the look without the chest armour plate. The armour underneath could be tweaked or thickened a little, but I definitely prefer that basic profile to the one with the armour one.

The Mk1 Beetleback is part of the inspiration, as is the MkII and MkIII Lucius pattern, along with the original Mars Reaver and Warhound and the new FW Mars Reaver and Warhound. I've even taken some pointers from models outside the GW range. Such as the Leviathan mech from tiberian sun, a number of Transformers in the new films (especially the decepticons) and Fasa's Mech stuff in general.

The greatest influence on this model design has definately been the two modern Mars pattern titans from FW.

This is intended to be a cool model that people will want to have towering over their battlefields, it is also intended to fit nicely with the Mars designs being reproduced by E&C, it is not a recreation of any existing model.

The chest armour will be a seperate piece so can be removed. will think about design and might extend that smaller piece.

Are there going to be multiple toes or is that the lot? I'm a big fan of a sort of splayed look.

it would be good to see this from a higher angle so we can get a feel for the depth etc.

There will indeed be multiple toes, probably four, maybe five. Thinking of a new design at the mo. Will post as soon as I've figured it out.

This is the new idea - sort of amalgamation between Reaver and Lucius feet. The large armour plate from the further foot would then fit over the front of this one. What does everyone think?

I think I read somewhere that the big toe is an important develpment for humans and bipedal walk. Unlike the elephant which can spread balance between four legs, bipedal walk require longer feet for balance. The longer toes actually makes a lot of sense in that regard (and is a point where the FW Reaver foot design may be questionable).

Which ones out of interest?  I can maybe see some of Blackout in the hulking shoulders and chest-centric head, what else?

Also, seen Revenge of the Fallen? You dig?

Now all we need is a medium-sized Walking Robot.

Why not go for the foot-spread of the MK1 Warlord?

I enjoyed both Transformers films, massive walking robots - the rest was just extra!
Megatron and Starscream - leg silhouettes was a major thing, and thier standing positions.
Blackouts shoulders - hadn't thought of that, but certainly there is elements there.

I think the toe slot in the armor should taper more, right now it seems a little short and stubby.
