I don't think consideration comes into it, they were either tested with the abilities or not...

You could test and balance stats for a Gundam or a Pokemon in Epic, but it doesn't automatically follow that your creation would be a proper representation of the Warhammer 40,000 setting.  :))

To be honest the attitude of some people to E and C's constructive feedback has really put me off attending their tournies in the future, if that's the kind of atmosphere there, regardless of the merits of these lists.

Just to say it really isn't - regardless of where you stand on rules development the atmosphere is fantastic and only really equaled at campaign style events - nothing tournament wise comes close.

bluemonkey:

I've attended three EpicUK-affiliated tournaments, and whilst I've encountered a small ammount of what I would consider to be slightly abrasive sentiment in army list development discussion between games, for the tournament itself I've had nine good games.

Yes it's a tournament club and some of the players there almost exclusively play in tournaments (or in a tournament style in games between tournaments), which does naturally generate a certain 'exclusive' atmosphere, but that's to be expected of any tournament scene of any kind really.

If you just want to dip your foot to test the waters, the Bristol Winter Warmer event is being billed as more of a 'meet up and play Epic' event rather than a fully competative EpicUK tournament.

So I'd advise going along and making up your mind in person, before you tar everyone with the same brush based on the behaviour of a limited number of people in a limited situation.

I'm not sure how fair that is on the "competative events"

I agree the typical EpicUK tournaments are not hostile cheesefests, but if a chap was looking to just dip his toe in the scene, it's probably a good place to try as an initial test of the waters?

As a totally impartial player, I have always found the tournaments a friendly place to learn the finer points of the game. The atmosphere of every event is deliberately set up to be more like a "club" rather than a "competition". Indeed I ended up organising the London tourney precisely because I wanted to spread the experience to people in London and the south of the UK. I have always felt that in the best events, everyone feels like a winner while a few unfortunate individuals have to lug some trophy home, and the UK events come very close to this ideal.

While I do understand that a competitive setting is not to everyone's taste, I think most would be pleasantly surprised if they came along. I suspect that a limited number of spectators could also attend if they wanted to see how things worked, but you would need to check with the organiser.

I would also echo the suggestion of going to Bristol for a "fun" event if you don't want to fight the standard E:A tournament battles. Having tried a number of the scenarios presented by Chroma, I have found them a most welcome alternative and am looking forward to playing them again.

Finally, you could come to see if my dice are as bad as I claim, or Dave's dice as good as we claim - which is all part of the fun.
