Nik, is it cool for me to discuss some of our experiments? But not our financials, of course.

Feel free to talk about the infamous German-US connection of Otters and Niks  :vD

The summary is, I'm trying to help Nik get some metal copies for himself using new tricks. Todd Boyce has a backlog.

Ooo.  What are these new tricks?  I guess there must be more than one metal caster, but not necessarily more than one who is reasonably priced and helpful to models our scale!

Are you keeping schtum or can you share the Otter-wealth?

I have been experimenting more with my stuff-greenstuff-into-silicon-mold trick, but I don't have high hopes for it.

The next experiment is to get some heat resistant silicon, a blowtorch, and some lead, and make the master myself.

you could always "temper" the silicone see here http://www.tomps.com/shop....do1h515

Hope that helps

What temperatures does the metal copy need to be able to withstand?

Im assuming a lot – if not why not use a low melt allow and a hotplate as no tempering or special kit would be required blowtorch wise.

Speaking of casting, does this mean you'll be making your own Chimera variants in a similar fashion in the near future?

'My' secret caster's vulcanization requires 1200 psi and 300 Fahrenheit for an hour or more.

So, I got some tin and pewter (about 400 to 450 F), and some special silicon (550 F max). The machine shop and mechanical guys are on-board with the experiment. Results expected in a couple of weeks - need time for shipping, then mold making.

Nopes, more setbacks, actually. A normal resin mold demonstrated to me that the track sections are too thin. Nik has given me permission to show them some love.

I do have all of the ingredients for when the time is right - casting ladle, pewter, high temp silicon, blow torch, etc.

Good luck to you chap, I really hope this can make it to the real world soon.

Not that I'm doubting your Mustelidaen skills, but is Todd Boyce's backlog really that bad to make you look into this sort of thing? Must be a lot of matter printing going on around the world!
