Here's the thing. I opened up box yesterday and I found bunch of assault marines and TONS of rhino's(I think something like 50+!). I opened up another box and I'm staring at bucketloads of space marines(and I have another box with them...) with yet more rhino's + some specialist vechiles. Leftovers from period I bought pretty much all the epic models I could get my hands on ;-)

Now it occured to me I might just as well get myself several different chapters while I am at it. Dark angels, blood angels, space wolves and black templars atleast. Maybe white scars though I don't have that many bikes. Or maybe another own colour scheme to complement my Grey Hawks.

Anyway it occured to me I might try to sculpt robes for the dark angels. Would certainly make them stand out and would break down that not-so-interesting-in-epic-scale colour scheme. Actually if this doesn't work I'll probably drop the dark angels.

Anyway first stand done except for base. Green is off the shade. Seems dark green is vallejo equilavent to dark angel green but I don't have it and deep green from model range is like ink(vallejo has annoying habit with these. I have 2 bottles of cobra leather which are like ink. Friend has them allright but he has bone white that suffers same problem while I have excelent bone white bottle!) but this is more of test of the robes than green armour.

Anyway pictures available here

Comments? Are robes adding to look or worsening it? Suggestions for improvements? I think I'll forget red eyes in future. Pain to paint!

Also should every marine in the stand have robes or only some?

I think the robes are working (and very well!) - however im not so keen on the hoods - I think this is because they seem to be going back over the marine backpack. Try just covering the head not the top of the back pack (or power plan or whatever its called :p )?

Id vote for only some marines on each stand Having robes for tacticals and all for veterans?

Also pic wise - Large file size is large

Noted. I'll leave the back open from now.

Agree with leaving the backpack uncovered. the way the sculpt is, it would be hard to make the hood look real good. I sculpted robes on my Sgt's in my DA army as well as a couple characters. Have you seen those?
