Dobbsy: So they'd get to spawn every time they're shot at? What if the enemy keeps shooting and only kills one or two per activation, the swarm would spawn quicker than they died, making shooting at them worse than useless.

yeah fair enough. hadn't thought that deeply about the idea. Could it perhaps come with the caveat that you only spawn back what was dead to maximum?? Thus if you only kill 2 you only get that back if you roll 2 or better(on a 1 you only get 1 back...). It would promote heavier shooting (the best way to kill nids if you go by the fluff) to get the most effect as eventually you'd lose more than you regained?? e.g if you kill 7 from 12 (remember no saves) a number of those don't return depending on your roll... Hadn't considered if BMs would apply either or whether the swarm gets broken to some extent (i.e you kill 7, 4 are returned and they still get BMs for 7 but get to ignore until assault??)

I dunno, as I said, just a brainstorm - they can sometimes promote alternate thinking....
