I am not totally sold on Hostile Stars designs

I am.  They look fantastic.

Scuse the lack of updates....  :sigh:

My final year of uni is nearly over and I'm on the runup to my degree show and exhibition, so things are pretty frantic. I'm working on a 1:100th scale exotic superyacht model which is fun but pretty complex.. the deadlines are looming rather!

I'm working on some of the smaller accessories and detailing and I thought you guys might be interested in today's work; a large RIB which will end up hanging off the back of the yacht.

This is almost entirely stock styrene, with a little greenstuff and some small chunks of chemiwood for the outboards and the steering console. The figure is a 100th scale architectural model detailing piece.
The bow needs tidying up, and I'll probably add a little more detail to this before I spray it up, but it will do for now.

Cheers
Gabe

*Storm applies electrodes, tightens neck-bolts and throws a huge power switch!* Bwahaha!! It lives once more! :p

Ahem. Hello and welcome back to my newly resurrected thread. I'm done with uni at long last and in between looking for modelmaking jobs (anyone want to employ me?!) and being a lord of leisure for as long as my finances allow, I've found some time for some modelling.

On the bench now are a couple of squadrons of Hostile Stars Pax frigates, some Eldar titans, and my main project at the moment, some vintage RT era 40k Orks. I've gone paint stripping mad and am having a whale of a time digging through my collection of classic models. The character of the old Orks is just superb and I thought I'd make a little display base to set these figures off nicely.

So, here we go, Freebooter and Friends!

Apoligies for the rather dark piccy but you should get the idea. I still have the base to finalize with some undulations, texture, the details, junk and gribbly bits. This is not a diorama, merely an attractive method of displaying the models so I want to keep it simple, but I may make an orky banner to add a little interest.

A friend recently gave me a tin of assorted old Fantasy and 40k models he'd been given, almost all hideously painted or savagely hacked up. I was chuffed however to find some real gems; a complete Fuegan, an Eldar Warlock, a Chaos Dwarf winged bull-beast thingy (quite rare these days I bet), the awesome Marauder Giant (missing his club :( ), a Dragon Ogre and some other funky Chaos bits... result!  :)) Hopefully you'll be seeing some of the fruits of my scrubbing and scraping soon.

Cheers
Gabe

I think it's called a bull-manticore.

Bull Taurus, that's it!

Depends - there were 2.
The winged bull was the Bull Taurus, as DS correctly stated.
The one with a head reminescent of a Chaos Dwarf was the Lammasu.

Aha... tis the Lammasu then, and what a beast it is. I reckon the sculptors were smoking some seriously good stuff when they dreamed it up!

Ork painting continues apace, all the metal and flesh areas are done which makes me happy - they've turned out well considering they are the first Orks I've painted in about 10 years....  :;):

pics later.

Cheers

So what sort of modeling jobs are you after? CD ones? Real ones?
You might want to consider sticking a few pieces with prices together and putting them on your forum sig on each forum you go to.

Well I have a selection of contacts... some on the more architectural/nautical/aviation end of things, producing concept models, models for competition pitches, trade shows, that kind of thing.
I also know a few people who are working for film companies, working on making props for features, as well as advertising and other tv jobs. We'll see what turns up....  :;):

Ah ninja edit!
Yeah, I'm not really looking for miniatures work to be honest; although making teeny weeny spaceships is a passion I keep coming back to and something I'd love to get paid for.

You CAD guys here have really got me interested in 3D modelling, I have to say; seeing all the incredible 6mm stuff and the fidelity of detail you are able to print blows me away! It's an area I've neglected, I enjoy working with my hands more than sitting in front of a PC, but the advantages are becoming clear and I'm keen to get my finger in a new pie....  :;):

Anyway, here are the Orks in their current state - all the flesh and metal is pretty much done.

edit; click here for a bigger pic.

I think I'm going to go for a rag-tag feel with the armour and clothing, so it looks like the little band are drawn from several clans and regions, nothing too uniform. What colour do you guys reckon the Freebooter himself would look best in? That big coat is a huge area to paint so I want to get it right - I'm leaning towards a nice deep red myself - what do ya think?

Cheers
Gabe
