Quick question. If I decide to carry say 2 land raiders on a landing craft, does this mean I can't take any rhino chassis vehicles? Or is it assumed that half the capacity still exists?

The landing craft vehicle text is

In addition the Landing Craft can carry four Land Raiders or six of the following units:
Rhino, Razorbacks, Hunters, Whirlwinds, Predators, vindicators)

Technically it is not allowed to mix hull types.

In a friendly game you can of course say it's allowed.

It is a slight annoyance, and yet another inhibitor to the Land Raider (and variants). IMHO half-and-half ought to be permissible allowing a one formation in LR to be transported alongside another formation in Rhinos, but I am not sure quite how you would word that in the LC notes.

"Capacity for 6 vehicles, land raiders take 1.5 slots, round fractions up"

Done.

I'll recommend this to the NetERC.

And would that also provide a way of transporting Land Speeders (counting as 5x vehicles and 5x infantry slots)?

Well the wording can be tightened up to "6 of the following {list stuff}, Land raiders take up 1.5 slots, roudning up"

Not sure its entirely a good idea to be honest. I just wanted to check my reading of the LC capacity.

I wouldn't recommend transporting Land Speeders in open space...

Speeders are deepstrike capable in 40k and not open vehicles because of the marine power armor. Sin PA can survive short stints in vacuum, I guess it is possible for speeders to drop from orbit.

There were lengthy discussions in the past about getting Land Speeders from space to the battlefield, but nothing was agreed not least because the lists were effectively frozen. This has always niggled because you can get all the other Marine stuff onto the planet's surface by some means or another; hence the suggestion. (we can argue the 'fluffy' practicalities later if necessary).

The thinking behind the suggestion is that a) the speeders are vehicles, and b) they are crewed by marines. Normally Tacticals etc take up space on the LC while their vehicles have a vehicle slot, so if the principle is adopted you would need to do something similar for the land speeder and crew.

I used to push for this when I was starting out with salamanders. Then I realised it was a slight power boost. So now for me its friendly only, not tourney games.

Technically Marines are in sealed suits so no problem there. I still don't think that it would survive re-entry though.

Marine jetbikes (back when they had more than one) survived re-entry with few problems. A land speeder looks a lot sturdier in comparison.
