I never leave the hive without a compliment of Haruspex myself. They are 'the bomb' when it comes to CC. You have my vote there.

Quite simply you only get at most 5 uncommon broods in 3000pts. In those uncommon swarms you can pick from 8 different units. Every tyranid list usually takes the maximum number of uncommon broods. Something somewhere has to be left out.

Assault spawn are pretty good but if you're not getting hit with MW's then the carnifex does a decent job as AV shields in a slow swarm for less points and are commonly seen paired with walking tyrants (Carnifexes are also fearless which is also a plus). I am of the opnion that assault spawn are best in pure assault spawn groups led by a Winged tyrant or maybe a Vituperator to get the most out of their speed.

I still think the Tyranid list is underpowered purely on the battle reports involving a range of armies. Marines seem to be the list most likely to lose to Tyranids and this brute force list in particular (Artillery clusters are a lot more vulnerable to the Thunderhawk strike than assault spawn).

Every tactic and list needs to be explored so it's all useful information.
