Black Templars V3.5 proposed changes

IIRC:


Type: Armoured Vehicle
Speed: 25cm
CC: 5+
FF: 4+

Weapons:
Hurricane Bolters: (15cm), Small Arms, Extra Attacks (+1)
Twin Assault Cannon: 30cm, AP4+/AT4+
Frag Launchers: (base contact), Assault Weapon

Notes: Reinforced Armour, Thick Rear Armour.

Transport (3 Infantry, or 2 Terminator Infantry).


Double the Firefight power of an ERC Land Raider in an Engagement, but much worse at range, and with an extra transport slot.

A single FF2+ attack (instead of two 4+ attacks) would also be acceptable.

In case anyone is wondering they are
AV, RA4+, Thick Rear Armour, CC6+, FF4+
Twin Assault Cannon, 30cm, AP4+/AT5+
Hurricane bolters, (15cm), Small arms, Extra Attacks +1
Pintle Mounted Multi Melta, (15cm), Small arms
Transport 2 terminators/3 tacticals, devestators or neophytes

I think they are a little wierd - in the sense there was no point listing the Pintle Mounted MM as it does nothing (and could be a bit confusing as a result), also the Assault Cannon has a different stat to assault cannons in the rulebook.
Oh and if anyone wished to add that Hurrican bolter armed dreadnaught they would have an oddity with two adding one attack like one would on the dred as well.

But otherwise its cleary built around being a cheap heavy armoured transport with good FF that can be bought for 75 points, with the key differences being the loss of the frag launchers, downgrade of the assault cannon and making the MM a statless weapon.

Yes, the pintle mounted MM is a pointless and confusing addition, but those probably my preferred stats. Still the same average FF hits as the 3x5+ version, just without the possible macro.

Of course all this mucking about with the MM is just papering over the cracks. The real problem with the unit is the cost per transport capacity slot.

AT5+ for the twin assault cannon?

That must be a typo, surely.
It's a rock solid part of the Epic rule set that Twin weapons give +1 to hit over a single weapon.

Indeed.


They've lost the frag launchers too, while is a shame because they're barely useful anyway but add a little bit of flavour (but then, lack of flavour has been the main critisism of the EpicUK Marine lists...), so I wouldn't remove the Frag Launchers giving CC5+.

I do like the frag launchers as an assault weapon giving cc5+. As you say, it does little but it's a very nice flavour piece.

The stats as E&C posts them are definately the way I'd like to see us go.

I don't believe so.

I know their Black Templars Neophytes have typos that gives them a Heavy Bolter, plus the Scouts and infiltrator abilities.

So who knows...

Actually, it's not "rock solid"... some Twin weapons only increase the AP value by 1, not both values.

Wandering OT now but that's not exactly inspiring my confidence in Epic-UK if they haven't fixed them since, it just highlights problems with completely closed playtesting and not allowing the wider community to look over them prior to being officially released.

The Real Chris: And we are supposed to have stats that can be used in several lists. For instance an Imperial Fists siege force would use Crusaders ont he ground.
All lists should share the same Crusader stats, but the non Multi-Melta stats are also a perfectly viable option, as supported by various people here and gone for by Epic-UK.
