Just a thread to see what's out there or might be organised.  :)  Especially as airfares are often cheap across the ditch at the mo...  In addition to me considering a trip to the land of deadly spiders, snakes and scorpions, I've heard a few ozzies saying they wouldn't mind an escape to the paradise of NZ... :;):

Anyway to start things off, here in Christchurch New Zealand we're trying to get a tourni off the ground end of this month at the Tempest Tournament. Details here:

And might aim for another one at Conquest in October:

Even though I am but a noob I'm looking to get some stuff off the ground in melbourne. There's been numerous aborted attempts by the established player group to get something happening but they've all been blocked by lack of appropriate venue and associated costs.

Luckily enough I've got access through the Monash Uni Wargamers club to free room hire and insurance so can run tournaments at essentially no overhead. I'm looking at doing a blood bowl one dayer in a few months and probably an epic one dayer later on in the year (very loose ideas so far, need to fit it in around the 40k tournament scene and my university workload, would also be best if I learnt a bit about the game first  :agree: )

Hey Mark.

I'll be in NZ for 3 weeks in July but it will be around Queenstown and then down to Riverton/Invercargill for the rest. Can't really see myself being able to get up to Christchurch without the missus kicking up a stink.

So near and yet so far...

If things go well and I get organised (sadly not sure this's that likely), then I may migrate to your upside-down part of the world one day - y'all still be playing in 5+ years y'hear!

Cool, well lets see if we can keep communication flowing. The more publicised events are the more potential players and epic we have :)

Sundays it is. 2-midnight. We're *just* starting up. (I hosted two games last weekend, with my 1500 points of space marines against another guy's squats) Really megre forces so far. Probably no epic for a few weeks until after exams, but if you ever want to come down send me a PM on here or check out the details on www.wargamerau.com forums as it's a little tricky to find within the acu\tual uni.

its a shame i never actually made contact with the local epic crowd in melbounre i  was there for 6 yrs with my armies sitting in the boxes doing nothing  after  spending what seemed a long time asking after epic and trying to source a local play group i had given into the fact that one just didnt exsist, in my 6 yrs  ther ei had 1 game of epic :(     and now im back in NZ  i get atleast 1 game a week.
Great city with great people and some nice local gamers (the ones i did meet from various groups and clubs)  would still be there if it wasnt for the better half.

Look forward to seeing some of you over here for a some what "grand"( i use the word lossely) scale epic comp, nothing like a little pride on the line to bring out the best :D

Stay in touch.

Fortis

I would prefer you keep these lists updated as well as Wargamer as like Blish, I would be interested too. The only interest I have in the Wargamer site is the trades area so I would never see your posts on there for an epic tournament.

I am also following the bloodbowl thread on ausbowl. There may be a few in our group (includes Blish) that may be willing to come down for such one-dayers.

Cheers......

Unsure what you're asking me to do... I'm happy to do it, whatever it is, but I'm just not sure what it is...  :sulk:

If and when I get the epic tournament off the ground (I'm looking at after semester 2 exams at this stage, need to get the bloodbowl one squared away first) believe me I will be spamming it hard on these boards and all others to get as much support as I can.

If you're just after a listing of monash club dates then it is literally every sunday 2-midnight. We've missed about 3 sundays this year on the weekends of major 40k tournaments where no members were free. Or if you just want more details I can copy paste some of the club details so you guys can come down in a few weeks after exam madness has passed (and I'll be there again, there's only 3 epic players so far so if a few of us aren't there there isn't a lot of point)

One concept I was tossing up with the bloodbowl tournament was running a bloodbowl and epic combined one dayer, just to get them both of the ground, but I figured there would be plenty of players like yourself who play both and would be infuriated by having to make a choice  :agree:

Yeah

All I meant was keep these lists updated with the dates and location of any future Melbourne Epic events as I for one use this forum for all my Epic goodness.

Also, don't forget to include which rules and army lists will be allowed as some of us may need to re-read things again.

Figured that was what you meant.

Wouldn't dream of running an event without letting these boards know (would be one way to doom an event into obscurity and failure in my mind)

I'll also make sure I send you a personalised invite as you seem keen as mustard. So don't worry, you will not miss out  :agree:.

The army list and rules thing is a sticking point with me... As I'm still just learning (one of the reasons I'm not running it for a few months) I really have no idea of what lists to allow/disallow, and which ruleset.

I think in the end I'll probably go with official + errata + ERC review even though I'm not really sure what the differences are...

And lists I'll probably list most of the balanced ones I know of and then tell people to ask me if they want to run a list I haven't put down. I'm more interested in encouraging people to turn up and being able to play the army they want will be one good way of doing this.

Once you decide, I can provide you with a central location on a website for people to go get the rules from if you want. That should save people running around looking for the lists.

I am going to do this for our group, so I can easily do it for the tournament you want to run as well. The offer is there if you want it.

Cheers...

Sounds good. I'll let you know as I move forward.

Being that I work at Monash Uni I'd be interested in a tourney later in the year too.
