Hey !!!   I like the Mk.1 Vindy ... And I reworked the Mk.2 ... But the Mk.2 like the Mk.1 Thunderhawk (ie. Thunderbrick !!!) were really not their finest hour ...

The Thunderbrick is sooo ugly, it looks to my eyes as if it wanted to say: "Bought me? Fooled you!"

Regarding the "ugly", "fool and sucker bait" Thunderhawk Mk.1

When Space Marine v.2 came onto the market, GW announced, unveiled, and eventually released a plethora of new models to the Epic range. With this new version of the game and the announced new offerings, a lot of gamers who previously hadn't been that interested in Epic became enthusiastic and with all the new races there was a lot room for "originality"
in collecting and assembling your armies with which to compete with your gaming friends.
In our gaming club circles, huge Epic arms races broke out with all the new releases.

At the time of the release of the Epic scale Thunderhawk Mk1, I believe this was the very first mention of ANY Thunderhawk by GW, model-wise or fluff-wise. As with so many other Epic scale models, they quickly became part of the 40K canon.

Nobody had seen or heard of a Thunderhawk before. And Epic Imperial Space Marine players were glad to embrace the functionality of the Thunderhawk, no matter what it looked like. A flying gunship/transport, shoebox or matchbox! It didn't much matter.
In play, the ridiculously small size made it harder to target and easier to hide. Additionally, I think the Thawk Mk1 may have been the very first flying transport of any kind produced by GW, Epic or otherwise. The first in a "class" or type of transports.

In one instance, in a large game between my Ultramarines and a heretic Imperial Guard army, Thawks were used to transport assault and terminator marines into the rear-area artillery park of the enemy. They wiped out the entire enemy artillery contingent in two turns. The IG commander surrendered immediately thereafter. He didn't care what the Thawk Mk1s looked like either!

Ahhhh, for the good ole days and the willing suspension of disbelief for the sake of ... FUN!

Refited Mk.II Vindys ...                                    Extented the barrel, added a hatch ... But those E40K Hatches with the Twin-Bolter would look good too ...
