Also, note the Tactical formation is made up of Tactical Marines with normal stats.  Only the "Salamanders Tactical" upgrade gives the multi-melta armed marines.

Ditto for Devs/Sallie Devs.

Salamanders Background for ther 3rd War of Armageddon:

When Ghazghkull launched his new offensive against the Imperial forces on Armageddon, the Salamanders were one of the first Chapters to respond, sending a full six Companies to combat the Orks, including Chapter Master Tu'Shan personally leading his Firedrakes. The Salamanders launched several counter-attacks against the rock-forts landed by the Orks along the Hemlock river. Preferring the close-quarter fighting within the maze of crudely carved tunnels within the Roks to the long-range duels in the desert, the Salamanders made the Orks pay a high price for their audacity. At least three Roks were destroyed by the Salamanders' attacks, slaughtering untold thousands of filthy greenskins.

hen Gazkull waged his second war on Armageddon the Salamanders brought most of their Chapter to the fray including Chapter Master Tu'Shan and his Firedrakes, taking the fight to the Orks in their crashed Rokk fortresses, killing untold thousands of orks and destroying fully three of these massive fortifications. The Orks have been made to pay for their invasion by the Sons of Nocturne.

The Salamanders were one of the many Chapters that fought in the Third War for Armageddon, but the Salamanders were one of the most legendary, their feats on the field of battle against the orks only matched by the zealous Black Templars of Rogal Dorn. Vulkan's sons fought with honor and distinction despite the fact that the Salamanders primarily fought rear guard actions, defending supply convoys and escorting refugees. Despite the lackluster duty of such tasks the Salamanders performed relentlessly, holding back every attacking Ork Horde and defending tens of thousands of refugees, the honor of the Salamanders earned the admiration and respect of thousands of Imperial Guardsmen and Imperial Citizens and gave the chapter a legendary reputation amongst the people of the Imperium as stalwart and honorable allies, a trait not common in many of the more unpredictable chapters.

I'm toying with the idea of using VASSAL to give the Salamanders some exercises.
Never played in VASSAL but in theory i know how it works (i guess) :D
Anyone wants to volunteer as opponent? In 14 hours after sthispostingi smade i think i would have some time to give it a try :)

Oh and i bet you want to read "Heros of the Space Marines" particularly the short story "Fires of War" from Nick Kyme. It features Salamanders and he will write a whole Trilogy about them :)

Surprisingly no, I am often filled with trepidation at such things. For example I loved Infernal Affairs so make I can't bear to watch the sequel or the prequal in case they ruin the original :)

Now to figure out how to do this Vassel thingy :)
