Blue with red trim... All I can think of is crimson fists, or one of the companies of ultramarines.

Finished the tactical detachment yesterday and about halfway on the devastator detachment last night. Might push through and finish them today and get some pics up.

Captsin, you're thinking about the old RT scheme.

@frogbear: You're a fellow melbournite, correct? Where do you game? Monday Knights in Auburn?

I've got a bit more done. Formations are starting to fill out which is nice. I now have a tactical formation with captain and a devastator formation with land raider transport done. It's starting to dawn on me just how insane it is to paint an army of this stuff, but I want to push through and get a basic force set up.

One thing I'm keen to know is peoples thoughts on the basing, they are washers with knead-it (putty) on top and the men pushed into it. I wanted to go something different from the standard strip or square. The washers are around about the same diameter as the diagonal of a square base. I'm going to add some snow effect to the top once I've done enough to warrant mixing a batch. One problem I'm finding is the bases are getting very crowded. Not such an issue for tacticals, but may be more noticeable with terminators and assaults. I don't really want to base only 4 or 3 to a base if i can avoid it so I may have to move to bigger washers for the larger bodies.

Anyway, photos:

Very nice Fortis, very nice indeed, looking forward to seeing your force grow.

Cheers

Great start. I think you pulled the colour scheme off perfectly. I am really impressed by the white. I think the base-size looks good, too. Terminators are not that much bigger, so I do not think the size will be a problem. A packed base also looks more menacing. Ogryns pull it off compared to Guards, for instance.

Your minis look great. Keep up the good work.

These are the old nova Marines. I love the classic red trim.

seeming yourpics has made me appreciate that the scheme makes borderline sense - it breaks up the outlines of the troops well enough to help

I'm not a fan of the old school vehicle designs, but the infantry looks brilliant.

Surely, we're not so worried about the old school miniature designs, as to the amazing paint job on them...

For most of us, we have to use what we have available.
I think this army looks brilliant and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it.

Ok so after a long exam period and a short "internet holiday" (on another forum, gave me some time to do stuff and also kept me away from posting) I've made some more progress on these guys and thought I'd throw it up.

I've tried to experiment with standing a little further back and using a crop rather then getting close and framing the pics properly then resizing the whole thing. Hope it worked out a bit better. Also it's dreary here in sunny melbourne so the photos were a bit dark, shopped a bit of brightness in but it may not be enough. For some reason the forum likes small pics. If you right click and then click view image you can open this pics a bit larger and see a bit more detail.

Enough rambling, pics time:

Here's a whole army so far pic.

Here's the rhino batch I did during layer cake yesterday, it nearly killed me but hopefully that's all the rhino's I'll need for a little while.

Here's the bike detachment, it was tricky figuring out how to do the quartering on these, I decided to just go with a vehicle style and ignore the rider's legs, don't think people will notice.

E&C made me cry so much I had to run out and get new style land raiders. Hope you approve  :sigh:
It was a "working with what you have" situation as Onyx was saying, but now I got a care package from CAL001 which filled in some gaps in my force nicely.

Closeups

Storage device I picked up for $2.50 at the reject shop. Fridge magnets glued to the bottom which kinda magnetise the washers to the case. It sorta works, going to make a mk.II once I get some foam.

The wet pallet I banged together, I got sick of paint drying up on me so thought I'd try it. Makes things much better, you can paint all the way to the last drop, and you don't need to add water throughout the coat to keep it consistent, it just does it for you so you don't end up with really thin paint at the end.

It's just blister pack foam in a fast food container with baking paper on top. Fill it about half way up the foam with water, ensuring the foam all gets wet and pre soak the baking paper a little.

And a pic of the alkemy dudes that are currently sitting next in line, scaring me and my lack of painting ability.

This comment, proceeded by the inherent awesomeness of the pictures of your painted marines preceding it does not make sense! Personally ive never really liked the quartered scheme for vehicles before, but I think your rhinos may have convinced me :agree: .

Meh, this base, wash, drybrush stuff is fairly easy compared to the blending and stuff needed to make 28mm stuff look good. I'll put up some of my 28mm nova's next update and you can see how average my painting is. And that alkemy stuff is the highest detail 28mm I've ever seen, google it, it's insane. That's a Jade Triad starter set in the tray.
