I don't know Hojyn, given the number of FF troops you had in that huge horde I would have done the opposite and doubled with them and then engage with the Harridan. It looked like a lot of your engaging troops were outside of 15cm from the picture, doubling them would have gotten you more in range to lend support and assaulting with the Harridan would have just put them at risk for a BM.
It looks like an Infantry company with some heavy weapons? That's what, an average of 6 hits? With some luck your harridan would have survived and you would have gotten some 20 FF shots?
I would have, but the Harridan had already lost 2DC (see the small dice close to it) and I wasn't sure it could survive the assault.
Anyway, my point is that pure Gaunts formation have to inflict lots and lots of damage just to compensate the terrible casualties they inevitably suffer. Prepping the assault with BMs and getting the outnumbering bonus is fine, but it only gives you +4 (+3 max if the opponent has an
Inspiring character). Than your hard-earned advantage (prepping an assault is not always easy)
melts as soon as your Gaunts start to drop like flies.
Also, don't forget it's only Termagants and Hormagaunts who count as 1/2 casualties. The rest of your troops, even other common broods like Gargoyles and Raveners, count normally.
