I understand the theory of 'no internet access make Jack a dull boy', but it doesn't fly IMO. If that's the case, why issue errata online? I can see someone showing up and being told their Scouts can't be Drop Podded, or their Eldar don't get Spirit Stones, etc. not being happy about it.

This is a different thing; it's inconvenient to be sure but it doesn't stop you from playing.

Showing up and finding out that Terminators cost 350 and your list is now 3050 points is a lot worse.

I understand that, I truly do. But an army list can be easily rectified. It'd be a rare list that couldn't drop sufficient points to still be legit, and if not, the TO could always allow the dropping of individual stands from a formation to make it legal. Example, Tacticals are 300pts for 6 models. Drop a stand, and you're at 3K.

It's better IMO, than allowing anywhere up to 10+% points advantages. An ork list that favours Super Stompas and Big Gunz with Zzap/Soopa guns can easily generate that amount. A Marine army that favours Heavy Armour can easily be penalized a similar amount.

If it's propagated at Tourneys, it'll eventually filter through everywhere. If it's not, then it leaves the game stagnant. And I'm curious, does this mean most Tourneys are Marine/IG/Ork/Eldar only? No wonder I see little mentions of Chaos/Tyranid/Tau in Tourney posts.

This all depends on the tournament organizer... some are comfortable with "new lists", some don't pay attention to development of non-published lists, and some develop/allow their own versions of lists.

The EpicUK tournament scene has specific, "in-house" lists they allow.

Moscovian's U.S. tournament scene allows for a lot of "experimental" lists.

GW tournaments (rare as they are) tend to only allow "officially released" lists, this included Marines, IG, Orks, Biel-Tan Eldar, and the two Chaos lists.

So...  it's a grab-bag.

After seeing some of the comments in the thread about Biel Tan tactics that has raised the Handbook 2008's status, I'm thinking of adopting the Compendium instead.

Thoughts?

Hojyn's Compendium contains only the official rules, so I definitely recommend using them if you are going to play with strangers.

In addition to Hojyn's project, the final version of the integrated rulebook that the NetERC worked on (primarily Hena and Chroma) has been delivered to Jervis.  It should be posted in the near future.  It doesn't have the FAQs mixed in the relevant sections, but it does include all of the original graphics from the published rulebook.

So... whichever style you prefer.

Actually, why not have both? If you're interested, I can send you the .doc file and you can modify it as you see fit.

Just seems that if there's going to be a re-release of all the errated rules, including errated lists isn't a big deal.

I agree with this and I've made the case to the full extent possible - to the point I think I actually aggravated Jervis, which is not easy to do.

The position isn't changing, so there's not much to do.  That's why we have the NetEA project, why the French ERC was formed, and why the EpicUK guys are doing their own lists.

Neal: If you or any other ERC member else is keen to produce a NetEA-official E:A Tournament Lists documdent, I would be more than happy to pimp the bajesus out of it on BoLS. To my mind, standardisation is the key to E:A's longevity.

Also happy to post about this confusion between the Handbook and the official rules, to which I have apparently fallen victim.

Would you be happy to work with me on this? Let me know.  :))

Ask and ye shall receive.

Agreed.

That would be great.

Always.  Many hands make for light work.

Okay. I've started a poll here to get some numbers:

Excellent work! I've been looking for something like this, and was ready to start on my own - you've saved me a lot of work :)

The only change I would like to see is highlighting the actual FAQ changes in blue, as they do with the BB rulebook. This makes it easy to see at a glance what actual changes have been made. I went ahead and made the highlighting changes on my own copy, but it might be something for you to think about on your next version release.

If you need any assistance, PM me and I'll help out with the remaining sections.

Also, how are you doing this project? I was looking for a way to pull the text from the EA rulebook to place it into a Word doc for modification, but was only able to do one page at a time. Information on your technique would be really handy, as I want to revamp the Space Hulk Bible for my own purposes...

I'll try to do it for the next version. Remind me to do it if I forget.  :p

Well, since I wanted only the text (no images) I copied-pasted it block by block, then edited it in Word. It took me a long time (especially since I had to do it in two languages) but I'm pleased with the result.  :))

I have downloaded a pdf>word converter, though, so PM me if you want me to send you the .exe file for the SH Bible.

I'm currently adding the army lists to the compendium. At first I wanted to include as many variant lists as possible but they are too many inconsistencies from one list to the other, so for now I've decided to focus only on the official lists plus some of the more advanced "unofficial" ones (Necrons, Tyranids, Tau). Hopefully I should have finished this some time next month.
