For my own use I'd like to work out some Malcador stats.

There are three main Malcador variants, the Malcador, the Defender and the Annihilator.

In Warhammer 40,000 it's a DC2 War Engine, though I believe this is simply in order to make it able to fire all its weapons all-round, ie: a game mechanics reason that's not nessesary to follow in Epic.

Stat ideas:

Malcador
Type AV
Speed 15cm
Armour 4+ RA
CC6+
FF5+
1x Battle Cannon AP4+/AT4+ 75cm
1x Heavy Bolter AP5+ 30cm
2x Lascannon AT5+ 45cm

Malcador Defender
Type AV
Speed 15cm
Armour 4+ RA
CC6+
FF3+
3x Twin Heavy Bolter AP4+ 30cm***
1x Demolisher Cannon AP3+/AT4+ 30cm ignores cover

Malcador Annihilator
Type AV
Speed 15cm
Armour 4+ RA
CC6+
FF5+
1x Twin Lascannon AT4+ 45cm
2x Lascannon AT5+ 45cm
1x Demolisher Cannon AP3+/AT4+ 30cm ignores cover

That looks about equal in capability for each version(?), and gives individual battlefield roles to each:

Malcador Defender - Anti-Infantry/Firefight tank
Malcador - Main Battle Tank/All rounder
Malcador Annihilator - Anti-Armour tank

Does that look like three balanced configurations?

Points cost: Same cost as a Leman Russ? (They're slower, but slightly better armed).

Worryingly they'll be able to garrison...

Army Special Rule: Malcadors may never garrison...

Then bumb up the price for being able to garrison (or make it a WE see below).

The stats seems to be ok. But only with the with the reasoning E&C gives.
Also note that the default sponsons weapons for the Malcador and Malcador Annihilator are Heavy Stubbers.
The armour is something between of a Leman Russ Demolisher and a Predator. If only Armoured Vehicle 4+RA fits. If a DC2 WE then 5+RA would fit.
And because Epic units tend to be equipped without alternative weapons the stats could be:

Malcador
Type WE
Speed 15cm
Armour 5+ RA
CC6+
FF5+
1x Battle Cannon AP4+/AT4+ 75cm
1x Heavy Bolter AP5+ 30cm
2x Heavy Stubbers AP6+ 30cm
Notes: DC2, Critical: looses -5cm speed.

Malcador Defender
Type WE
Speed 15cm
Armour 5+ RA
CC6+
FF3+
3x Twin Heavy Bolter AP4+ 30cm
1x Demolisher Cannon AP3+/AT4+ 30cm ignores cover
Notes: DC2, Critical: looses -5cm speed.

Malcador Annihilator
Type WE
Speed 15cm
Armour 5+ RA
CC6+
FF5+
1x Twin Lascannon AT4+ 45cm
2x Heavy Stubbers AP6+ 30cm
1x Demolisher Cannon AP3+/AT4+ 30cm ignores cover
Notes: DC2, Critical: looses -5cm speed.

The heavy stubbers are there as a default weapon intended to be upgraded. Noone would ever use them. The Epic stats should represent typical, iconic or targeted weapon load-outs, not just whatever happens to be the default.

If they were WE (I don't see the need), the criticals should certainly be fatal. Keeping track of multiple DC vehicles in large formations is a nightmare already; tracking which ones are now movement 10cm is just pointless.

Well they are notorious for getting really slow when damaged.

And the models shown in IA Apocalypse have as their sponsons:
Malcador: Autocannons (but look the same as Heavy Stubbers)
Annihilator: Heavy Stubbers
Defender: Lascannons

Sorry, but that just wouldn't be playable. These are likely to come in largish formations, russesque, so keeping track of varying DC and speeds for each tank is just not worth the effort. Epic's about sensible abstractions.

And the models shown in IA Apocalypse have as their sponsons:
Malcador: Autocannons (but look the same as Heavy Stubbers)
Annihilator: Heavy Stubbers
Defender: Lascannons

The ones in IA:6 have:

Malcador: Heavy Bolters (and pintle mounted Heavy Stubber)
Annihilator: Heavy Flamers (and pintle mounted Heavy Stubber)
Defender: Lascannons.

In other words, there's no consistant standard/iconic weapon set for them.

What about hull and sponson mounted autocannon on the vanilla Malcador?

Use of autocannon shows its an older imperial tank, keeps it flexible (with AP and AT firepower) and also differentiates it from the russ.

I guess the defender should have sponson heavy bolters or heavy flamers to keep with its short ranged infantry death theme.

I think it may be easier to compare the Malcador to the Ragnarok than the Leman Russ especially for working out points costs.

I think making them AV's will work best if the formation size is going to be more than 3 strong.

Would do them in Formations of 6 to represent Companies, DC2 and critical=destroyed.

Think that would work best in this case.

At more than 3 per formations and War Engines they are going to have trouble targeting enemy formations due to blocking each others Line of Sight.

They are going to be extremely easy to assault using clipping, again due to blocling each others Line of Sight.

I don't think they're practical as DC2 War Engines, they're just too small (Probably only two thirds the volume of a Land Raider).

Hmm have you a picture of a Malcador together with a Land Raider and a Leman Russ?

Here's one with a Leman Russ.

And here's one with a Land Raider.

Wow is a Leman Russ tiny    But ok AV 4+RA would fit with this size.
