How about doing them at historicon, coldwars or fall-in?

Email me more information and perhaps something can be worked out.  I really am not familiar enough with these events to be able to commit to anything, but I am open.

http://www.historicon.org/.... in Baltimore in 2010, 2011 (moved from its current location in Lancaster, PA)

Good organization, good convention... silly little issue of the historic-on designation, but they run DBM tournaments with Romans vs. Samurai, so a little epic couldn't hurt.

Umbrella organization is HMGS (Historical Miniatures Gaming Society)

http://www.hmgs.org/

Their charter and mission is "Promoting the Hobby of Historical Miniatures Gaming." But it's not clear how stodgy they are about how to promote the hobby -- do they see Sci-Fi/Fantasy miniatures as a legitimate 'gateway drug?'

I emailed Moscovian with most of the following, but I'll post it here as well to get everyone else's input...

Ideas for the next Games Day event (or any large event in general):

- Identification.  I know an earlier post had mentioned a banner  to ID the group. I think that, or something like it, is a good idea. For one, I had a hard time finding the tables when I got there, and the hall was pretty much empty! I can't imagine how hard it would be to find the Epic tables with a crowd! Plus, some sort of bling would help draw people over to the tables.

- Tshirts. I noticed that alot of the clubs had shirts. Again, I think this would be a great identifier for the Epic players. Also, by purchasing shirts in advance, and picking them up the day of the game, you might eliminate some of the no-show problems. You pay $15 for a shirt, you're more likely to show up, rather than lose the money. It also gives the participants a cohesive look and encourages the "team" aspect. Plus, having a good looking shirt would make us all look cooler. As gamers, we need that.

- Informational flyer / card. We had a few folks come up and ask questions about the game and resources. Not that I didn't enjoy talking to them, but it would have been nice to be able to hand them a flyer and say "Here are some resources for you to look at when you get home."  Stuff like where to get the models, alternatives to GW, websites, etc.

- Time. I think you should enforce a time rule in the future. If a player is a no show by the scheduled start time, tough luck. They either miss out, or get some sort of penalty to their final score. Maybe an automatic tie or loss, depending on the results of the game? I am not versed in tournament administration, but I'm sure there is something that could be done.

I'm sure I'll think of something else.

One thing Moscovian mentioned in his response was
Of course, Steve and I were kicking about the idea of having either a team challenge or a giant scenario for us to play against each other in.  A two-round tournament is tough to do.

I totally agree with the fact that a two-round tourney doesn't quite work. I was thinking of less of a tournament, and more of a "for fun" game(s) format.

Anyhow, it was a fun time and Moscovian did a great job organizing everything. It was nice to meet everyone, and I look forward to next time!

Here are some photos for you guys. Due to time constraints, I really only had time to take photos of my stuff and the Ork army I was playing against. My army is the green Imperial Guard - they aren't finished, but I am working on it. Hopefully, they'll be done by next Games Day :)

Sorry if I'm late to this part.  I participated in the "big battle" as Biel-Tan and walked around with the "big, expensive camera."  I've just processed and uploaded some of the photographs to Flickr.  It's mainly a few random shots from the big battle and, of course, pictures of everyone's forces in array.

This has, of course, motivated me to paint my army so I will no longer be a member of the great unpainted masses.
