It seems there is a recurring theme in EPIC tournaments within the UK not to mention the place where it's located:

Open War = Nottingham
Full Scale Assault = Mansfield
Into the Breach = Wakefield

How about The Winter War Offensive?

Why not mention the place?

As the number of tournaments grow, keeping the place names out of it only makes the scene insular.

It's much easier if the place is in the name. I've had to look very hard previously to discover where some tournaments were taking place; the threads for some of them didn't even say, presumably as they were only aimed at the regulars.

I wouldn't say tha tnot naming a place makes an event insular; however i DO like menitoning Bristol in this events name as i'm quite proud that this seems (london aside!) to be one of the south's first ever epic tourneys!

i dunno...the 'Bristol Open' is rather catchy if you ask me; and sums up the ideology behind the event nicely...perhaps 'Bristol Open' is just an umbrella name for a wider variety of events; so this time round you've got the 'Bristol Open: Winter War' whilst at a later date you might have 'The Bristol Open: Golgotha Rising' Campaign Day...

Obviously - the aim is to get the same players to every tournament and not attract any newcomers.(sarcasm)

I can't believe that you seriously think this

I'm sure nearly every thread contained the location and if, by oversight, it doesn't then the link provided would.

There's an example where the location is not mentioned until someone has to ask for it, after 12 regulars have signed up. Keeping the location in the name is just common sense to avoid this sort of problem.

Heh, I was actually going to drive up to the second day of Full Scale Assault, but couldn't find confirmation of the location at the time (I should have read more closely through the tournament thread apparently) so didn't make it. I knew it was at the Gas Club the previous year but didn't want to drive all the way up only to find it had moved.

Steve: I'm not sure that sarcasm or hostility is nessesary, we all want the best for the tournaments.

Really? How has your characterisation of tournaments in these threads been helpful?

The point of this tournament has been stated to be slightly more "friendly"; this doesn't mean anyone thinks the current tournaments are unfriendly, but nor should we pretend that everybody is 100% happy with them. If people have critisisms to make they should be allowed to make them without being constantly attacked.

I echo what foolish Zombiecom said.

I've said stuff like 'great fun', 'much less WAAC than GW Core Game tournaments' and 'lots of cool looking armies' about EpicUK tournaments. Noone's complained about that, but the minute I say stuff like 'There are one or two (Self-described) powergamers, and some games will have a very competative edge' I am somehow the devil.

Read my in-depth tournament report again (And reply over there if you want to keep this thread clear of debate)... do I sound like I'm slagging off the EpicUK tournament circuit, or just offering opinions on a fun day?

Zombocom and E&C,

I apologise if you were unable to find details of event venues when required. We at EPIC UK Towers do try to make sure details are as clear as possible but sometimes we do miss things (we are only human after all).

The best way to keep up to date with tournaments is to be a member of EPIC UK's tournament mailing list. Roughly 8 to 12 emails are sent each year with all the details of each event. If you email me your details I will make sure you are added to the list.

Also check out www.epic-uk.co.uk; on our calendar we have every UK event with its location, dates, costs etc. I must point out that sometimes we do have little bits of information missing ... this is due to the tournament organisors not giving us full details or missing something on the form we send them.

Thank you
