I don't understand the complaints about the sprue layout.  I thought it was a darn fine selection.  The only thing that I found disappointing was the Flayed Ones.  Assuming you want to use everything as-is, based on the layout, with 10 sprues, you could have…

4 full Phalanxes (20 stands of Necrons + 4 Lord units built from Lords and spare Immortals)
5 full Equites (Destroyer) formations
1 full Venator (Flayed Ones) formation, plus 4 other stands (you could get to 2 full formations if you went 4 models per stand)
2 full (basic + upgrade) Recon (Wraith) formations, assuming you base them 3 wraiths per stand
4 Pariah units (only 1 per formation, so that’s 4 upgrades)
10 Tomb Spyders for upgrades (more than you can reasonably use)
10 Immortal units for upgrades (again, more than you can use, so treat them as conversion fodder)

If you want to convert the Equites to have torsos, there should be enough spare Immortals, even after using some in the Phalanxes.

The way I count it, that's ~3000 points on 10 sprues without a lot of waste.  After you add Monoliths, Obelisks and a Harvester Engine/C'Tan or two, that should make a pretty flexible 4000-point force.  You could probably take it up to 5000-points if you were willing to throw everything on the table.

I think they look good.  I would have wished for more basic warriors and more of a skeletal Arnie Terminator look, but all in all I like what I see.  I've ponied up for five sprues and may do more, depending.

Sorry you guys are let down.

The size matter was my choice, so I'm to blame, but it's easily remedied.  I figured the Deathbots would be large and in charge.  Command figures were made larger just to stand out from the fields and fields of Regulars would would be on the table.  Mea culpa.

However, to address many of your other concerns, realize I sculpted these as original designs, not proxies for someone else's figs that they are just as capable of producing.  I wasn't interested in opening up my client, and myself, to an IP lawsuit from a big company with lawyers on retainer.  Plus, I don't like to work in other people's shadows.  The Deathbots had to be able to stand on their own as separate intellectual properties, and I think they do.

Best,
JBR

I think they look great, and personally I'll be using them as proxies for a certain companies army they won't make in 6mm

And that is well and good, and your right to do as the consumer.  Don't get me wrong.

But for others to be unhappy because the Deathbots don't look and fit into the roles of (unnamed undead androids with Egyptian tendencies) leaves me in a precarious position.  These weren't intended to be the above-mentioned army's figures.  They had to stand on their own as a distinct concept.

I couldn't, and wasn't interested in, copying someone else's IP.  It's just not the way I like to work, and not what I signed on to do.

Best,
JBR

I'm happy with them and will be viewing them as an important part in my collection :-) A little chopping and changing and i'll have a JBR Deathbot army that I can use in my favourite game that remains undeservedly unsupported.
Although i can uderstand why some might feel the way i do I thank john and wargames factory for producing a cheap and viable alternative to seeking out expensive oop mini's :-)

I'd also enjoy talking with others here to create a death bot army list for FWC.

Still not got around to playing it FWC yet! Must get myself organised  :sigh:

I'm happy with the finals, I put down my 9 bucks for 9 sprues thus far. And without pussying about the subject they will make nice necron troops.

Re: Size:

Are the deathbots on 5mm diameter bases?

The bases must be 5mm diameter or less.

I think 'must' is an overstatement.

If you want to use GW epic bases then it may be. But you can always base them on an alternative material.

If they're going to the trouble of using circular bases, then it'd be a pretty silly thing not to stay compatible with the most popular basing size (DRM & EW also use 5mm).

I hear what you're saying John. From the beginning Tony and I talked about how these couldn't be Necron ripoffs. Proxies are one thing but I wanted these to come to fruition and the only way to do that would be staying well clear of a Necron look. I think we got exactly what we needed here thanks to you. 6mm "close-enoughs" that will allow us to proxy the army relatively easily without catching any legal flack for them.

On the sizing thing, I'm not overly worried as those are easy fixes. However I would have gotten the final sprue layout done before I started taking pre-orders... But whatever, it's not my company.

On the bases, they're on 1/4" round bases that are 1mm thick.

I concur.
