Still no sign of any Falcons from Forge World.

Well, less than two hours after I posted that, a package arrived from UPS with two packs of Falcons inside. I haven't had a proper look at them, but it looks like they're pretty decent casts, too, which is a relief after some of the recent horror stories.

I have a separate order for another three packs; hopefully that'll be arriving soon as well.

Those are definitely some sweet looking Swooping Hawks!  Good jorb!

So... when's their first fight?

Thank you. Hopefully it'll reasonably soon, but I'm not sure. I haven't been able to play very much since leaving University; I still need to find or recruit some more Epic players around here.

Cool! Maybe my Falcons will arrive soon!

@Chroma always trying to get a BatRep out of someone!  :vD

p.s. Nice looking Swooping Hawks. While I'm struggling to just assemble my all of my updated Eldar you have yours painted. You're making me look bad dude!  :O

Well, here is another Alaitoc Ranger warhost, this time with accompanying Falcons:

The Rangers were painted up weeks ago, and have been waiting for some accompanying Falcons ever since.

My second order of another three packs of Falcons still hasn't arrived. Hopefully it'll only take a few more days.

Current plan:
1. Once they arrive, paint some more Falcons for a Swords of Vaul troupe (already done two, and two Firestorms, so I need at least one more, although I intend to do three).
2. Paint up some Fire Dragons.
3. Paint up enough Falcons to transport the Fire Dragons.
4. Take a pic or two of the whole army.
5. Call it a day for now and take a break from painting Epic stuff. I have a few 54mm models that should provide a bit of a change from 6mm, not to mention some Blood Bowl stuff that needs doing (a few Orcs, plus most of my Wicked Elf team from Shadowforge).

Well, there's still lots of stuff I haven't got done (Warp Spiders, Howling Banshees, more Dire Avengers and Fire Dragons, more guardians, Jetbikes and Wave Serpents), and if I do take a break soon you'll have plenty of time to catch up. But really there's only one answer. Get to it!

Don't hold your breath, take a look at my FW rant post.

By the way, very nice Falcons Axel!

Right now I'm doing my best just to assemble my armies and terrain. I don't know how everyone else does it but I prep them as if I were going to paint them (removing mold lines etc) before assembly even if I'm not going to paint right away. That means pretty much mind numbing assembly work for ages until I can take a break and paint something (or just cave and paint cause I'm bored).  :))

Well, I got the rest of my Falcons last Thursday, but it has taken me all week to get any of them painted because I apparently suck at life. Still, here they are, in a Swords of Vaul troupe, along with a Firestorm that I painted a few weeks back:

Based on how long it's taken me to get these done, I think I've made the right decision to stop once I've done one more formation. I definitely need to take a break to replenish my enthusiasm.

I do like these Forge World Falcon models. The old metal Citadel ones are decent enough, but these are definitely nicer. I really like the Falcon. Despite the fact the current design only dates back to 1997 it's one of the real iconic units for the Eldar, for me at least.

It's interesting to compare the type-2 hull of the Firestorm with the older hull on the Falcons. The FS is slightly flatter than the falcon; the top of the hull is about a millimetre lower. I'm not sure which I prefer.

*cries* I want my Falcons too!

Good work on the Falcons. What do you have left for your army?

What do you have left for your army?

Well, for now I'm going to paint up a troupe of Fire Dragons with six Falcons as transport before stopping for a bit.

Other stuff I have, and intend to paint eventually, but not just yet:
* Four Guardian warhosts (of which only two are so far assembled).
* Warp Spiders and Howling Banshees (eight stands incl. Autarch and Exarch, same as the other aspects).
* Four more stands each of Dire Avengers and Fire Dragons (which would allow for two troupes as long as I took all available character options).
* Seven Wave Serpents (enough to transport the Howling Banshees and a Guardian Warhost).
* Three Night Spinners.
* Twelve more Jetbike stands.

Next time I have some money going spare, I'm planning to add some Vypers, three Scorpions and a Phantom Titan, and get the bits I need to make bases for the grav-tanks. After that, I'll just add whatever takes my fancy at the time, probably starting with more aircraft. Eventually I'd like to have at least one of everything, and be able to field essentially whatever army the list will allow and know that I'll probably have the models for it.

Got my Falcons in today Axel, finally. Notice how they didn't include the antenna things that go under the hull? They came with my Night Spinners.

Oh well, they're good molds and I won't be calling to complain this time!  :vD

I have really enjoyed seeing your Eldar on here and it will be sad to see you leave them for a while (will you post an 'Army' shot of the whole lot?)

I was also wondering what happened to your Tzeentch Chaos force? If you're going to plan a break, perhaps you could revisit them?

That's good to hear. Yeah, I wondered what happened to those, too. Can't say I miss them too much, though; they don't add all that much to the look of the model and they're another part that can snap off.

Yeah, soon as I've finished this last formation I'll take a whole-army shot or two. Should be looking quite good by now.

Speaking of which, I've got the Fire Dragons done this afternoon. Just need to paint up another six Falcons and I'll be done.

I'm (pleasantly) surprised anyone remembers those. What happened was pretty much that I ran out of steam and got distracted by other games in other scales. It didn't help that I fell into the trap of painting the exciting things like titans and converted obliterators first, leaving me with heaps of infantry to slog through.

For now I'm going to take a break from 6mm (I might even leave it a week or two without painting anything), but I definitely ought to try and get some more Chaos Marines done in the not-too-distant future. If nothing else, it'll be helpful in trying to convert new players to have two fully-painted armies, rather than one fully painted and one half done. If and when I do get around to revisiting them, I'll post pics here.

Well, I don't see too many 'proper' chaos armies all that often, and full cult armies are even rarer. Your Tzeentch force was great, and I hope I can encourage you to revisit it some time soon.

Looking forward to the Eldar Army shot!

So, there I was, all set to have this army finished, only six Falcons left to do and...then I stalled and didn't paint anything for a couple of months. Oops. In my defence, having already painted nine Falcons, and another nine very similar Wave Serpents, I was really sick of painting Eldar grav-vehicle hulls. Still, I can't deny that six AVs in almost two months is a bit feeble.

Still, after nearly as long as it took to paint the rest of the army put together, I have finally painted the remaining vehicles, and so now I have an Aspect Troupe of Fire Dragons mobilised in Falcons:

I probably won't actually use this formation like this very often, but I can alays borrow another formation's Wave Serpents for the Fire Dragons and the Falcons could form a Swords of Vaul troupe if need be, so they're still useful.

Coming next: whole-army photos. I'll get these done as soon as I've finished repairing one of the Falcons which has broken since I photographed it.

I know the feeling of exhaustion. On the other hand, practice makes perfect. Great job and I cannot wait for the army shot. Oh, and if you think taking close-up pictures of tiny miniatures is hard, wait until you have tried taking army shots of the same tiny miniatures.

So with the army all done, it's time to take some group shots.

First, a panoramic view of everything:

And a couple of detail shots:

Thanks to Man of kent, Malakai, Cuban Commissar, Markconz, GlynG, Chroma, centurion, nealhunt, mspaetauf, fredmans and Major_Gilbear for your kind and encouraging words, and to everyone else who looked at this thread. Posting stuff here was definitely a big motivator in getting the army done; I suspect I'd never have finished it otherwise.

Incidentally, I found the Dawn of War computer game really handy for trying out colour schemes before I started. It was also what gave me the idea of doing the panels on the sides of the Grav-tanks black rather than having them green like the rest of the hull: DoW did that automatically and I decided I liked the way it looked.

If anyone's interested, this army comes to 6115 points.
Using the Alaitoc v.2.4 list:

Absent from the photo were two more stands of Wraithguard, a Fire Prism, a Firestorm, two stands of Dire Avengers (one with an Autarch), two stands of Fire Dragons (one with an Autarch), two stands of Swooping Hawks (one with an Autarch), two stands of Striking Scorpions (one with an Autarch) and two stands of Dark Reapers. These are mostly to substitute in to allow for different options and arrangements of the various formations.

The next project will be to do some more work on my Chaos Marine force. No promises as to when I get around to that, though.
