I dont ever recall actually seeing any official fluff explanation. ?I remember when they were dropped, and I recall people's explanations... but can anyone point to a GW written bit of fluff that actually says what happened?

I've never been able to find anything which says what happened to the Squats, and believe me I've looked.
they just disapeared...
Whenever I raise the subject of Squats someone always says that the 'nids got them but then when challenged to provide evidence they never can... funny that

The Tyranid thing was down to Gav Thorpe originally. When asked at a convention what had ahppened to the short guys (look who's talking...) His reply was that they got eaten by the 'Nids.
A few conventions later, and this had become the "official" answer, with a few more details and a promise that there would be a fiction piece published describing the events to tie up the whole thing and stop the perpetual barrage of questions regarding the squats. However, the fiction piece never arrived (that I am aware of) so it remains folklore outside convention seminars.....

..The bit in the 40k rulebook which describes the new hivefleet (Behmoth?) attacking from under the galactic plane also seemed to imply that the Squats were destroyed by them, as the worlds maked on the little map were all around the area the Squats had occupied in previous fluff I believe...

Funny how I thoughts that almost everything was Pirinen and Cavatore's fault. Gav is simply the one staying around to cope with the storm after they left.
And duuno in english, buit in spanish there is this funny thing about Thourpe meaning clumsy is you take out the H. Still unsure about why the hell I posted this post, mind you....
