Hi!

I see. I'm pretty much clueless to fluff that pre-dates 1995 or so.

Solar Admiral Machiarus was a dude that started a crusade to conquest a load of sectors in the "southwest" sector of the galaxy map. He was quite successful in his crusade, conquering a huge chunk of planets , systems and sectors for the Imperium. He also defeated a society that was way more advanced th the imperial one (by diverting a fickin' comet so it crashed into the other civilization's main planet) and a few other things. Quite one of those revered figures in the Imperium, you know, specially for the Imperial Navy and Imperial Guard. All done with strenght of will and arms, no marines or other funky stuff IIRC.

Cheers,

Xavi

Hi!

It begs the question then...why haven't they done it to the Tau?

The IG can function well on it's own without the Space Marines.     However, I'd take "funky" SM support anytime ! ?:L   The Tau and their Kroot allies, may be the "Ace in the Hole", to defeat Chaos, since the Eldar are few and not sure what "cards" they want to play.  I'll take hi-tech warriors allied with brutal xenomorphs to fight side-by-side with against Chaos than a dying  race of technologically advanced mystics, not sure of what they want to do.  But if they get their act together, an Imperial, Tau and Eldar alliance could send Chaos, Orks and Bugs running !

Maybe there wasn't a suitable comet available....?  :p

In the good old days the Imperium could still kick some butt.  :{

They released rules for Solar too.  His stats were random, to allow for the terrible wounds he suffered during the campaign.

Makes you wonder, if solar could redirect a comet towards this planet.  Why could they not redirect it away?

I think Tau are simply too far away for their to be a large scale attack against their realm.  Add to that the fact that the Nids are approaching from over there too, and its not really a priority for the Imperium.

Let the Tau and Nids fight it out between themselves, and mop up whats left over I guess.

Of coarse, if the Nids win, then they will be very hard.

Hmmmmm, I just though of something -> new thread time.

Hi!

If the Imperium were smart they'd just steamroll over the "tau empire" steal their technology and give the rest of the races some "smackdown".

Ah, primarch, but that tech is not sacred and blessed by the emperor, so it cannot be used by regular trooper since it could corrupt them. Result: it will not have any impact in the 40k universe if th Empire gets *all* the tau tech. They will simply not use it, heh.

So great are the wonders of religion and infighting. You are doing well because of alien tech? you are an heretic then.

Cheers,

Xavi

Hi!

Hmmm...then they should first KILL all those dumb zealots in the adeptus mechanicus, then put squat engineers as techical overseers, then destroye the Tau and get all their technology...

...hows that?  :p

If they had Squat engineers they wouldn't need Tau tech....

Hi!

Its easier for the squats to maintain stolen technology than make it from scratch.

This is a piece of fluff from the good old days. Demostrates the difference between Squats and the Imperium quite well.

-The Tech-adept rewound the tendrils into the stump of his wrist.

"The nature of this device is not clear to me," he said mournfully. The short figure at his side bustled up to the console.

"Well, shift your spanners and let's have a look at the thing." The Tech-adept sidled uncomfortably away, and the Squat peered into the casing.

"Now, then," continued the Squat, as much to himself as to the Adept, "Hydroplastic power transmission, controls attached to a timer and what looks like an encoder, a pressure chamber at the centre surrounded by..." The Tech-adept, who was looking over the Squat's shoulder by this time, shot a manipulative tendril into the machine seizig a frayed and broken end of  cable.

"If we remake this join..." he began, enthusiastically. The Squat laid a restraining hand on his arm.

"I really wouldn't recommend it." he said "You see, I interpret this device as an unusually complex plasma bomb, and the cable you are holding goes direct to the arming mechanism."

:D

Stupid Adeptus mechanicus!  :D

It reminds me of the Harlequin novel, and the squat in that.  Though I suppose all Squats have the same charming manner.

I miss the squats - hence finding excuses to include them in my Horus Heresy fluff ;).

Hi!

I remember that story Mojarn, very illustrative of the difference between the two. Humans in 40k WORSHIP technology, squats, like ourselves today, study and strive to understand it, its just a tool.

Worshiping technology usually leads to not changing it or making big leaps forward. Thus the Imperiums stagnation.
