Ok, let me help you all out. We're not going to create a one trick pony "popcorn" army.
All this theorizing is interesting from an intellectual perspective, but what you are not taking into account is what happens if you get your wish and it fails?
What will you have just done to the list and the rest of community?
Remember, there are consequences for all of your actions, therefore choose very carefully what actions you do take. The risks associated with this idea far outweigh any potential reward and in fact, if you did find a magical way to balance a Tau spam list with itself, you will have then just about ensured that the Tau never make it to the tourney scene.
So, "no". Get some sleep or go get something to drink that doesn't have caffeine in it. ÂÂ
Like I've said, a lot of the time I'll come up with ideas that aren't immediately good or bad. When you don't get a lot of playing time in, you miss important things, like the idea of stalling-for-free-activations. That concept is pretty foreign to my mindset, like expendable living troops (most Aux in 40k).
I won't deny that the option exists (and is the biggest problem with high activation-count armies), but I don't bring ANY formation with the sole idea that it's a 'spoiler,' ie, an activation to 'waste' and make my opponent do something else. Everything I bring in an army is chosen to have at least two jobs to do on the battlefield, and it needs to do BOTH of them for my army to be fully effective.
It's a mindset thing, like how you distract someone from the assault that you've got staging right in front of him.
(oh, and for the record, I'm at GMT-8, so I posted that idea at about 5pm, and I am not supposed to drink anything caffeinated anymore.)
