I just got a letter from GW about my BFG mag subscription. The magazine's being cancelled... and replaced by a new mag imaginatively titled Fanatic mag, first issue in May. This will replace all existing Fanatic mags, current subscribers will get a full refund by phoning up MO. The new mag will be 96+ pages and in full colour WD format. All issues will carry the full range of game support.

Interesting... that confirms what we were talking about in another thread... Personally I'm pleased this is happening, but I can understand the qualms others have stated.. guess we'll have to wait and see what the future holds!

So we end up with another WD...I think this is a giant leap backward.  The converts to epic from 40k will be few and far between.... :{

I got this letter this morning as well. I think it sounds like a good idea, as it combindes the entire community of Fanatic players. I think the quality of the mag and articles will improve as well!

Tas, I think fanatic will be promoting Epic in WD anyway. Epic:A comes out in Feburary, this isn't till May. They have 3 months to convert people. And if they don't, primarch will with his Epic conversion ray...Currently being constructed on the moon...

Cheers

Chris

I'm cautiously for it as I collect a lot of the Fanatic games and would be interested in articles for the other systems. This of course depends on quality, size and price! The new mag would get heavily promoted in WD I suspect and allow for better cross polination between Fanatic games, so hopefully would be a good thing for EpicA's release. I was starting to get a bit feed up with the BFG mag anyway. Nearly all the good stuff went up for free online anyway. At least this I will have some nice colour pictures to console myself with when the articles turn up in the various resources sections.

Hi!

I wish there were such a thing as a conversion ray Chris! Epic would be the most played game on the planet, releases every month, epic magazines with loads of articles.

I can dream....

I actually think its a good plan.  For someone like me at least.

I dont have the money to collect all the fanatic mags, but would like to know what's going on with all the specialist range.  As well as epic and BFG which I do now, I'm interested in starting Necromunda, Mordheim, Inquisitor, warmaster and blood bowl eventually.  With a mag containing it all, I can keep up to date on changes and additions.  There's no way I could buy all the different versions seperatly.

With only one mag, I would also imagine it would be easier for non specialist game players to get into one of them too.  There's no searching through lots of different mini mags. Instead pick up one large mag, and have every sp.game at your fingers.

Also, people who only play BFG (for example) may now see all the goodness of epic and think, 'Hmmm, I'd like to try that'  where as if they had stuck to thier BFG mag they wouldn't see any of it.

There's also the plus side that one single mag will be easier for Fanatic to distribute & for retailers to stock than all the little mags. Thus, hopefully, we might see it in more independant stockists than the individual mags made it to.

Since I like to read articles of just about any game system I'm all for it! Then again, I am a strange person.

I like to read articles for almost anything as well - and I can see that I will now have to start that Warmaster force I have been thinking about (ahhh, another game system and army to think about!).

Still, while I dont think that it will make much difference for Gothic, I think that it will help Epic for about three months, and then be bad for the game. I really hope that I am wrong.

I dont getmany thoughts, so I need to write them down as soon as they turn up...

Riddle me this: In the Incoming article, Jervis stated that there would be no WD fanfare for the new Epic game. Also, Epic mag is effectively cancelled but the new Fanatic mag wont appear until three months after the release of Epic. So, who will know when the game is finally available, beyond the Vault?

Also, if the rules are available for download relatively quickly, many people will simply not buy the new Fanatic mag and only download the rules for free. This will translate into less sales, and could cast a cloud over the new mag as well.

And finally, how do you persuade a completely new player to buy a magazine for a non-supported game when he only needs 1/7 of it?

I dont know, this new move has me a little worried.

I'm with C/S on this, and have been reluctantly optimistic at best, about the whole E-A experiment.  The whole endeavor had an ill concieved feel about it.  Too many changes, too much speculation, etc., etc.  Like going to war on a shoestring !  Given a mission without any support ...     So now I have to see about a refund for my 6 Epic Mags.  If I thought they were going to drop the ball on this, I would have never subscribed ?  ???
