Adeptus Mechanicus vs Chaos (two battles)

The fleets:

Chaos: Warmaster Planet Killer (finally!) 2x Murder Devastation 3x Idolator 3x Idolator
So finally I face the Planet Killer. Yay……
Short battle summary I positioned my AdMech concentrated on the left side with a single Gladius squadron on the right and the Strike Cruiser in the middle (near left). All to avoid the Armageddon Gun.
My first turn saw me moving near his line and a Nova Cannon shot went wide. We both killed of an escort (Gladius and Idolator).
Second turn: Nova Cannon on Devastation, he decided not the brace, I roll HIT followed by a ‘6’ for damage. So I crippled the Devastation with a single Nova Cannon shot. Yay. Best moment of the match….then it went downhill. He disengages Devastation which leaves me with a Defiant and Strike Cruiser plus torps to gain ordnance superiority. Long range fire makes the Gothic brace and take a hit.
Third turn, fourth and fifth: My mistake: moved Strike Cruiser and Lunar to wrong side of Gas cloud which makes them nigh on useless in the battle, this coupled with three(!) fails to reload ordnance on the Strike Cruiser (Leadership 10…..) made this: blech.
I inflict some damage on his Murders. He manages to cripple Gothic which I disengage.
Then the Planet Killer: Armageddon cripples Defiant. Targets Lunar at distance, I fail brace, his batteries take down shields his lances inflict 2 hits…..both critical…..both ‘11’ hull breach bot ‘6’ on the D3…so I take another six hits: Lunar dead…..of frell….. I conceded there and handed him victory. Out of position and bad luck. He rolled good, above average and I failed either to brace and if I did I failed the 4+. My shooting was crap aside of the NC.
Then we played:
the Bait Chaos pursues AdMech
Chaos 2x Slaughter 4x Idolator
AdMech 1x Lunar [AWR] (bait) 1x Gothic [AE] 1x Defiant [AWR] 3x Hunter 2x Gladius all Ld9!
In short: In the end the Lunar and the Defiant got destroyed, I crippled the Idolators and killed a Slaughter (Gladius and Hunters flanked them: yay! Good use of escorts!). We called it off because of time. He had more vps but virtually I had the better fleet:
Full Gothic, 2 Gladius, 3 Hunters vs 6hp Slaughter (with Hunters on tail) and 2 Idolators (being targeted by Gladius and Gothic).
AdMech conclusion * The 60cm Dorsal lance on cruisers: only usefull if you add a battleship like the Retribution. * The gifts: Advanced engines: handy. Augmented Weapons: good. The Repulsor Shields: okay, the rest: no use. * The Defiant: utter crap. I’m going to make an Endeavour out of it and add a Dictator. * The Gothic on Lock On is cool, paired with some Gladius very fearsome. * Hunters are freakish fast, great! * Overall I made some mistakes (NEVER split your fleet) and I was out of the loop for broadside fleets. Latest fleets I played with have been Eldar and Tau, front facing ships. Need some rethinking.
