FYI REGISTRATION IS OPEN ON THIS

It is 2009 and on the heels of a successful Epic Tournament in Baltimore last year, I am looking to do the same again this year.

Here is some preliminary information I have:
Entry Fee: None, but it will still cost you $25 to get in the door.

Table Space: According to GW, they "have LOTS of room to play with" so there is no limit on number of players at this time.

Start Time: Unknown

Structure: Unknown

Prizes: Unknown

The biggest complaint we had last year was that there was not enough time to check everthing else out at the tournament.  One of the things I am considering is running Team Play so that each army is run by a pair of players.  Another idea is simply starting earlier.  Last year we also had a late arrival which pushed things back further.  I won't mention any names, but his username rhymes with "Ord Blazinquitor".

At this time I am open to any suggestions.  Anyone who is interested please post here or PM me.  If you don't I'll just annoy you until you go anyway, so you might as well.

Nobody can expect the Inquisition to be on time ... or something.

Honestly, I thought it all went very well. While I did run around like a headless chicken - I was late, but I did get to see most of what I wanted to. Yeah, we could start earlier but then that doesn't actually increase the amount of time available - people can just try to go around and see everything first! Plus you need to alot some time to handing in Golden Daemon entries, traffic jams, me, etc.

I'm not sure team games is a great idea - while team games can be enormously entertaining, I would prefer a more simplistic format. Not to mention that I'm not sure they speed things up very much. You could try shortening the rounds a little bit - but I wouldn't. If I finish my game early, I can hand in my results and bugger off and look at shiny things. If I don't, I'll really rather spend the time playing the game to the end. So either way, I'm happier with the long round time.

So: don't change anything! It was great.

I'd be up for the 2 players, 1 army approach. Allowing people to tag out between games or even during games. I wouldn't have a problem with someone playing the whole time either.

Not sure what they got planned this year but I definitely want to try to get a copy of the Iron Star, a 32 page Ghost's book that the Black Library says will be there in small numbers. Other than that, Epic is on the top of my list.

Pencil me in as a definite maybe. I'm not too crazy about $25 admission, but I know there's nothing that can be done about that. I'm not all that interested in Games Day itself, but if that's the price I have to pay to play Epic (and watch others win prizes and trophies  :vD ) , then I'll consider it.

is there anyway that people who want another teammate could have one and those of us that don't could play by ourselves. i don't play 40k or any of the other games at games day so i for one would like to run my army myself. i don't think anyone would mind playing against a team as long as someone was there at all times to play it

I've been considering this.  I'd like to get some more feedback from others.  It may be that there is enough participation to get two different tourneys: one for team play and the other for single play.  The single play games we might even be able to fit three games in for the day- this would be for the die-hard Epic fans.

What do y'all think?

2 Tournaments? You're crazy... like a fox.

Personally, I don't care either way. A Single/Doubles tourney would be fine in my book, or the two tourneys. I'm not going down there expecting to win, just for fun and to see the organizers' ugly mugs.

we have a bunch of squat, land train, overlord, 25 to 30 unused sprues of infantry (with the bikes and all that on them) also have some ork infantry, tanks, stompas, maybe a few odds and ends for the other armies.

FYI Corey (the Necron Champ) will most likely be at the tournament again.  Since he was the 2nd place winner ya'll better brush up on your anti-Necron tactics.

Looks like I have to bail on Adepticon due to financial contraints, but Baltimore GD is in my back yard.

Nids, Saim Hainn or Guard.....hmmmmmmmmmm?

What is anyone thinking?

I don't know what shape the Nid list is in right now and as such I may not allow it in the tournament.  If the feedback come March is relatively positive I think I'll allow it.  If not, I think you'll be bringing the Guard or Eldar.

Depending on how motivated I can get, I may be bringing Necrons, Biel-tan, Dark Eldar, Minervan Legion, or Elysians (contingent upon the status of the list).

FYI if all goes well with the Tau list, I will allow it at the tourney also. I have faith in Honda's ability to get things straightened out.

I don't know what everyone else's experience has been, but every time I've played "team" Epic, it's taken longer.

Mainly, it's a function of being too polite. "I was planning on moving formation X, but do you want me to hold off until you move formation Y?" Ad nauseum.

I suppose it would be fine if the players on a team switched control every turn (and not every activation), but even then it can lead to dragging things out. Think of it like bowling: with 2 people on a lane, you usually don't have to wait too long for your next frame. When you get 5-6 on a lane, you usually end up waiting for the guy who went to order a beer and onion rings, but hasn't come back yet.

I can honestly say that the group I play with can finish 2 pairs of 1 vs 1 games in the same time it takes us to finish a single 2 vs 2 game.

I agree, I think the "team" game thing isn't too great an idea. Now, if two people want to enter as a single entity so they can see more Games Day and alternate between games or something, that could work.

But for me, I would much rather just play with myself!  :vD
