Impressive start Chroma. I agree with Mr.Nice that simple gray infantry is the way to go. Guns picked out in black with maybe the odd detail in white?

Really looking forward to watching your army progress.

Damn it, I nearly missed this, sorry.

Wow, that looks great Chroma. I'll be trying to copy your pattern for some of my own stuff.

And a Pathfinder Devilfish... while looking over the various Tau references, it always seemed that Pathfinder units/vehilces had a more "complicated" variation on their army's basic camo scheme.

The colours used for the camo are the following, from the Vallejo "Model Color" Line:

Base: 964 Field Blue
Camo Stripes: 907 Pale greyblue and 950 Black
Drybrush: 951 White

And then the whole model is given a wash of watered down Woodland Scenics "Earth Colors Liquid Pigment":

C1220 - Black

That stuff is some of the best shading wash/ink I've ever used!

Very nice work ont he Tau.

I always seem to struggle when attempting similar Urban Camo schemes, but yours seems to fit together very nicely.

Totally agree that for gaming pieces, simple grey is the way to go for infantry, using the other two colours to pick out kit so you keep consistency.

Of course... there is always room for the odd display stand done up in full camo.... you know you want to....  :;):  :blues:

It's been a long time since I've last bought any new paints. Mainly due to financial issues, but I gotta say that I'm very tempted to try out those woodland scenics pigments soon. You and Onyx are getting some nice results. I'm not sure what's going on with GW and vellejo paints, but my washes tend to come out way too gritty these days. Not sure why, since the same paints provided excellent smooth results a few years ago.

Thanks for all the kinds words, folks!

For the most part, I'll be going with that "field blue" as the base colour for most of my Tau.

Here's an example of the way I'll be painting a single, "elite" formation of Tanks; the "Red Devils", for lack of a better name:

Not sure I'd do the elite formation in red Chroma. It'll sort of look out of place in the army.

Cam looks good though. Not sure if you've chosen a accent colour but I think a yellow would offset the cold colours you've used so far. It'll pick up the flat tones with a little flourish IMO.

It looks nice, but I think the regular ones look better, which somehow doesn't feel quite right.

Well, the "elite" one doesn't have any detailing, or camo stripes/patches, I was just testing the actual red.

My idea was just for a tank Cadre that had made a name for itself and painted their tanks a little more "wildly" than the rest of their force.  I'd tie in some "unifying" colours to try and make them fit... anyway, those guys won't be showing up until I order reinforcements.  *laugh*

Yellow is a good "flash" colour, just gotta figure out where to put it.

I just finished converting my "command" Hammerhead... gotta let the glue dry and then prime it and start the Armoured Mobile Hunter Cadre...  WOOHOO!

Cupola rings are a nice starting spot I found. Or hatches. Around the front edges of turbofan(engine) cowlings - much like they used to do with WW2 allied planes

Great work Chroma!   I love the camo pattern.  I think they will look really great as a unified army.  What are you looking to do with the bases?  any foliage or straight urban like?
