Mal: what's happening is your camera is autosetting the whitepoint of the image. Without the backdrop it picks the brightest highlight as pure white and adjust the image accordingly, but with the white backdrop the camera has a more "true" white for its calculations making the image appear correct.

Looks good, though one thing I'd recommend with future ones if you can be bothered is to add even MORE rubble to the base. Something I didn't do with mine which I kind of regret now.

You mean inside the building or outside on the "curb?"

Both!

It was pointed out to me, with my ruins, that if only that much of the building is standing... then where is the rest of it?  :))

A small detail really, but if I had to do it again, I'd add more rubble.

I have another one base coated right now. It has two small rubble hills built up.

Adding tons of rubble is realistic, but you kind of have to trade realism for playability in order to move tanks and infantry into the ruins.

:vD  Good luck with that!

Seriously if you can get your hands on some I would. I got one set with my box set and purchased another off a friend when he bought his box.

I've actually held onto those things for that long (not to mention the Epic scale trees I did earlier)!

It feels really nice finally putting some paint to them. I guess that's why I'm a little anal over them and paint one at a time while trying to have a variety of colors instead of a overall uniform gray.

hmmm... I've been postponing purchase of the epic scale ruins, but I may just have to break down and get some if any become available especially now that I'm nearly complete with the AMTL army.

I know what you're thinking, "is he going to post a pic of every ruin he paints?!"

Well, probably.  :p

I spend as much time on my terrain as on my miniatures so I think they deserve their chance in the spotlight.

Let's face it, terrain isn't as glamorous as armies, but they are necessary, and I feel that people have forgotten an important element to terrain.

More so than armies terrain adds "atmosphere" to the game you're playing.

And let's not forget that no matter what armies you're currently using chances are that you will be using the same terrain again and again. So it's well worth doing a job you feel good about.

So with that said you can expect me to keep boring you with shots of my latest solitary ruins and other bits of terrain.

Here is my latest offering to the terrain god:

And an aerial view:

I decided to take a shot of the first three ruined buildings sort of to show the direction I want to go (ie as much variation as possible without looking garish!)
