Thanks guys :-)

For some odd reason (the fact i went to bed early?) i woke up at 6.30 am today; I don't need to be at work till 10 and so i set about painting instead.
The results:

It's crazy; this whole dipping thing is too good to be true (for when you want an army up and running quickly), look what's left to do:

Hydraphant, dominatrix, biovores, zoanthropes, meitoc spores; I predict finishing it by sunday evening after basing; that's another 4-6k (depending on which army list is used). Magic!!!

Great effort. I think the dipping works really well for you. What are you plans for the bases? I just love those flying gargoyles. Makes me wish I had thought of it, although I have some more broods to paint.

Yeah, mine too; i've been experimenting with the dip by adding washing up liquid in order to change surface tension and it's given me the better result thus far. However, the aim of thise chaps is to get a new army up and running and looking good in a short space of time; they're no way near as good as the marines but i feel they call for a different technique anyway.

Now; i'm aware that i've actually ended up 3 months ahead of the schedule for TOTW, because this army is now ONE MODEL OFF OF BEING FINISHED! The hydraphant need's painting and then i'll base everyone in the next few days.  In terms of TOTW i DO have some 'process' shots however and will probably post some additional 'how to's'  and such as well as better quality pictures; so all is not lost!

Now then; the past couple of evening's and morning's work has given us the following.

As well as the big bad mama bug herself!

Due to the larger size of both the Dominatrix and The Hydraphant i'll experiment with adding some 'flat' highlights to certain areas once they've been dipped/washed.
Playtesting will begin next week, 9.1 on tuesday, FERC on Thursday.  Orks after methinks...

I have to say that I prefer your 'Nids over your Crimson Fists!

The blending of the colors, especially epitomized on the Zoanthropes, help bring home the fact that these are organic creatures.

And I don't mean organic in the way that there are no 90 degree angles, but organic in that it looks as if there are bodily fluids just beneath the surface of their skin membrane.

Well done MoK!

Edit: If I can offer a suggestion on basing? You may want to stay clear of "natural" looking bases. Something hard, urban, concrete to offset the bio-nature of the Tyranids would really help them "pop"!

Ew!

Baseing' i'm toying with a desert'y kind of feel but i think that yr right' these bugs need somehthing 'hard' to bring out the infantry; i think grey is the order of the day!

Oh, they'll be waiting! Have you seen what Hydraphant's can do in the French List? (Tip; don't take any titans! :vD )

It has been a BAD WEEKEND (see additional comments HERE)

Now, before showing you the pictures of my completed 'Nid army, let me tell you what's messed it all up 'beneath the seams' so to speak; for it does LOOK nice at least...
Right, so: they've been based on 1 and 2 pence coins, on top of those coins is a layer of wood filler coloured grey.  So good so far. I spent FOUR HOURS clipping down the bases of the infantry and painting the 'anchor' that created grey to match.  Still good.  Superglue was then applied to said anchor and each individual figure placed on the base. TWO HOURS.
The problem; well, it doesn't seem that the figures are particularly well adhered to and a few of them keep falling off :-(, i doubt that they'll survive transportation.
ON TOP OF THIS, i ended up buying some weird bushy flock stuff after refusing to pay GW's exorbitant £5 for a 50ml static grass pot or whatever...not only is it a tad too big next to the 'Nid's but it doesn't want to stick very well...further to my problems several of the metal figures have already got chips on them (caused by the fact that the wash was part based on white spirit and handling them is a tricky business.  With any luck these two problems can be solved by a quick repaint of selected areas and a hefty dose of varnish.
If ANYONE has a damned fine idea to help with the other problems i'd be very thankful.
Now; on with the show; have a look at these slightly overexposed pictures due to my foolish choice of background black and tell me that at least the army LOOKS good...

There's that done then...
yrs,
R> :sigh:

Nice looking Tyranid horde.  :agree:

A couple questions on the basing issue, are the figs glued to the top surface of the wood filler? If the wood filler has a plaster like consistency, I could see there being an issue with the super glue holding on to that type of surface.

Is the "anchor" you talk about part of the fig or something on the base itself that the fig is attached to?
