Man but those Mk1 Russes look even better with a dozer blade.  :wow:

I use them as proxies for Ragnaroks; note that the lascannons have been cut off.  I allow the dozer blades to 'count as' the walker ability.  The rest of my guard use FW russ's so i consider these to be my 'mobile bunker mk1's'...here on Ryza IV at least!

Right! This is turning into a Tyranid Blog! In the name of keeping my motivation going by allowing people to comment AND in the name of keeping my TOTW thread nice and neat we'll have all the banter and progress over here whilst TOTW continues unabated...also means i can show off all the bugs that aren't in the other thread!

So...here's what need's doing...

...all undercoated and ready for painting...

and here's what's been done thus far:

Which i reckon is pretty good seeing as she started out like this:
It's great! No need for highlighting or blending whatsoever! I just start with a nice thin 60/40 mix of the correct colour paint and water, apply that to the chosen areas, the white undercoat does the highlighting AND blending and then i just wack on 1 or 2 coats of Walnut Wood Dye depending on how much shading is needed...I'm a happy man  :vD

Finally...

"Hojyn Made Me Do It!"

Well, after the esteemed gentlemans how to i just...well...had to! Cheers chap!

Taken straight from my TOTW pages so as to keep this blog up to date and to allow comment...some of them haven't come out as well as i hoped but i'll get better pictures once they're all based.

"Today I painted all the plastic infantry aside from the Lictor's who i want to spend a little extra time on.
So, in order of appearance:
Termagants

Hormagaunts

Genestealers

Warriors.

The paint scheme is very simple:
1: Undercoat sprayed matt white
2: Watered down Red Gore to correct parts
3: As above with Liche Purple
4: As above with Tentacle Pink
5: As many washes as it takes to get the desired shading: i've used two washed of 75:25 Walnut wood dye to white spirits.  You could use inks, washes, or a pre made dip.

Here's what was achieved in total:

All in all for a maximum of 8 hours work throughout the day i'd say that the results are stunning!

Next and final phase for January is Basing; and boy do i think i've got some clever ideas for that this time round!"

why is everyone on the forum becoming painting machines?  ???   Very nice stuff, how do you find sprue painting compared to normal on the base painting actually? As epic is the only scale I'm intrigued to try it on

Great work and with suck an easy painting method!!  I must admit that the basic way with dip/washes is how I am going for my epic stuff, hope it all turns out as good as your Nids!

Oh and I hate you for making want to buy  a Nid Hive now!! LOL

Keep up the good work but please less subliminal messages about collecting Nids!

Yes...everyone is doing very well at painting right now; i reckon it's a case of "keeping up with the Jone's"!  :;):

SPRUES: THese guys are going to be based circular; and as such i don't want to be in and out between the mini's trying to get each detail done; in fact i think i'll keep using this method for anything but 40x10 bases as i't seems so quick! THough there are DEFINITELY merits to painting on the base...

PS: Collect Nids Collect Nids Collect Nids.

Hey MoK, great work on the Gargoyles!  :alien:  I love what you did with the tails, they look really good like that.

And I warned you it was a tremendously long process...

Nice colour scheme on the Tyranids too, I can't wait to see more of the army! Go paint it NOW!  :))

Very nice looking Nids MoK. I've seen the Nids on round bases in some of the BatReps here and it's the way I would go if I hadn't already based my entire Hive already.
I'm ashamed to say I don't really know the term "Dip" for mini painting. You don't just dip them in a wash like solution, do you? I know, dumb beyond ignorance.  :vo

Oh, and Bunny... Collect Nids!..  :))

freakin sweet!  And I like how you're painting the minis on the sprue - does it make it much easier - or is basing them then kind of a pain?

See my TOTW sprue for a more elegant answer of what i'm not awake enough to go into right now; spent the day in meetings for my theatre company and am shattered!
Apologies!

Right then; proceeding at a rate of knots we have (apart from the start on my gaming board here) today's progress!

Lictors

Gargoyles

Exocrine

Haruspex

I was kinda worried about the purple to begin with but it came out okay in the end! After about a week of painting that's nearly 75% of the army finished in fact; think i'll wait until it's all done for one of my signature 'basing frenzies' to top it all off!
Wish me luck boys,
R>

Looking good there MoK. those dips seem to work quite well on the infantry.

Yes the dipping method looks to be very effective. I'd also like to say that it's a far better result than your red and green test mini (who I thought wasn't that bad to begin with).
