Been an entirely too long time since I posted here last, frankly I'm amazed my account still EXISTS.

Anyway, as one of my friends has shown interest in Epic recently and gotten me thinking about the game again I decided to grab a copy of the AMTL's most recent rules and look them over and something occurred to me. There don't seem to be very many good anti-personal choices for battle titans. At the moment the only real anti-personal choices are gattling blasters, apocalypse missile launchers and vulcan megabolters (Not counting Quake Cannons as they're expensive and more of an anti-everything weapon). Why is it that we don't have any good anti-personal weapons for battle titans? We can mount megabolters, but they're rather short range for use on the slower titans like the Warlord. Free though they may be, they just seem to lack luster especially as they're shorter ranged than the Gattling Blaster and Turbolaser Destructor.

In the interests of not just belly aching but actually giving some input, I'll suggest a new weapon which has no fluff or background behind it but seems like something which ought to exist:

Vulcan Gigabolter 60cm 4*AP3+/AT5+ +25 Points.

Simply put, a megabolter with longer range for use on battle titans. Nothing fancy or new, but would be nice to allow Reavers and Warlords to mount more anti-personal weapons without resorting to macroweapons or artillery.

I recall an old kids joke that might give a clue here:-

"Why do ducks have flat feet? To stamp out forest fires."
"So why do elephants have flat feet? To stamp out flaming ducks!"

So the question that come to mind is "Why do titans have flat feet? . . ."

A rather amusing joke, for certain. And I agree, some Epic-Koans would be rather hilarious! But still kindof missing the point. Titans can stamp out tanks after all just as efficiently as infantry!

I guess what I'm wondering is why is there only one 45cm ranged weapon which focuses on anti-infantry when we have two 60cm ranged weapons focusing on tanks? Especially as we've got large numbers of MW weapons which are generally better off firing at tanks than at infantry (Especially cheap, numerous infantry like IG) since tanks usually have better armor saves. While assaults are one way to try and deal with them, it'd be kinda nice to have a more viable alternative than the vulcan megabolter to put on a warlord or reaver, is all.

We have 2 AT-centered and 6 MW weapons (Not including the support missiles), would having a second AP-centered weapon be a bad thing?

Well BP weapons are better vs Infantry and the gattling blaster is an all round gun. I'm not sure another AP centic weapon is required.

and titan's don't usually have to worry about infantry as most don't cause all that much harm (no high AT or TK weapons for example)

The background (storm of iron and titanicus) seems to imply that princeps of non scout titans don't care about enemy infantyry, or even tank.  Such small things are ignored whilst they go out hunting SHT engines and glory.

As such a tiutan wouldn't have access to weapons that could easily deal with massed infantry.

Exactly. You have Gatling blasters on Warlord/Reaver and Vulcan Mega Bolters on Warhounds. I doubt you need any more AP options on battle titans.

Cheers

"Mechanicus" too. Infantry and Vehicles are only there to well...fill the battlefield somewhat so it doesn't look so empty :D

I've never thought that AMTL lacked AP weapons. The current weapons suit me just fine.
