Nice work Erik!

I do my bases this way: I first paint them gobl green and then glue (PVA) Woodland scenics grass (the kind I use is called "turf") to it. real simple and looks pretty good. As youre already halfway there I thought Id share it with you :-)

Looks like this:

I have to admit, my votes in epiccomp went to the bases.

Great looking stuff !!  The Old Ork B/W turret on the Chimera hull is very cool !  And I see you used the Old IG painted up as the 24th Foot from the Zulu Wars !  Neat !!  :;):

Ok boys, I know how to base, at least basic basing.
I'm just not sure if I want to. If I want a playing piece or a model piece.
As an example the experimental obliterators and my old orcs look like this:

I actually use real dirt and static grass.

You collect some of those fine fine very small stones from a drive way or something..mix it with dirt..dry it down if you have to and bag.

Sorry folks, didn't mean to snub you.
It just feel as if everyone wants me to base units.
And I just don't know if I want to or not.

Anyhow, I made a platoon for Pax Arcadia, to see what I feel:

Somewhere down the line I got fed up with stereotype steroid styrene slo... hills.

Saw the islands Amera Plastic Mouldings did for Uncharted Seas and thought they might be perfect for 6mm* terrain.

A second check got me to high a postage for an experiment but I order quite a few other hills and moorlocks instead.

They arrived today (slower than expected) and where splendid!
Started out with the smallest one. It's thought to be a very small hill, hardly any at all, but a wood it is instead.
Cut it out and sandpapered the edge. Some army green spray as primer and ground.

The rock outcrops got Vallejo Stone Grey, Citadel Devlan Mud and some white dry brush.
The grass etc is probably all Heki. Not sure what trees there'll be.

* Fellas, can't we find a good name for this model scale? Epic scale? Micro scale? Brittle scale? 6mm (even if it's actually 8mm according to GW!).

Epic scale, 6mm and 1/300 are all common names for the scale.

Sorry about the base thing Erik. It can get a bit badgering with suggestions on these threads but all in a well intentioned way. Still, your bases look the biz, very nice. I like the hills too. I prefer bigger hills but smaller would work just as good if not better, just need more.

It still bugs me zombie.  :sigh:

Yeah I know it's well meant...

This one was the very smallest one. The other ones are fairly much bigger.
Stay tuned for a battle report featuring them all!  :vD

30x20, that's what I want. And a fairly sharp edge.

20x20 is small and fiddly and doesn't look well.
40x12 is also on parade, even if not as much. And metal models fall over in transport.
40x20 is an entire area of land to lugg around.
None round really works, except maybe for individual models.

Enters... Renedra, and the man, Terry, that did these plastic Epic models of old (and new?) we all love to play with.

And my Stormtroopers look splendid and I will not be worried they'll tip over etc.

Everyone does want you to. What is this a democracy?! Base em soldier!!  :;):

Lol as L4 says DWWFY (do what works for you). My personal preference has shifted to some sort of grit or sand drybrushed in browns or greys, with some patches of static grass or flock/shrubbery attached, takes a bit of time though sadly  :sigh:

Are those in the latest post dark realm?? Looking good!!

I agree with the 30 x 20 comment by the way. I think it is a much better base size than the others. Though if I was doing my own stuff over again, I'd probably go circular for everything!

That picture makes me feel much better about ordering a bunch of 30x20 bases for my next project.

Indeed it is so MC and Sgt, it's even so that we might scrounge enough support for to have them make a sprue for it. Where my thought is 5 "randomly placed" Ø6mm on one side and one Ø3mm on the other (for those that want to magnetize).

Ah, yes  Markconz , that's Standard Infantry from DRM. Really nice (again!).
