Ulthwé has been updated!

Some minor tweaks, and the Spear of Khaine has been added as an option, which is something I'd really like to see people's thoughts on!

Apart from my general grumbles about black guardians not being allowed wraithguard/lords, a good list and I think that this can be kept as is for the Chaos book.

There's some good Spear of Khaine "flavor text" in the 'Eye of Terror' campaign codex.

Well, it's to prevent 1+ init Wraithguard... and it's supposed to be a "rapid strike" force of elite Guardians... don't need no robo-zombies helping!  *laugh*

And thanks for the thumbs up... I *do* want to hear what people think of the Spear of Khaine though.

Well you have given Iyanden Wraithguard 1+ Initiative whilst they have spiritseers.

I will only be taking the Spear of Khaine if I end up with a spare 50pts, I don't see the need for it.

I am very happy to have the SoK there!  Of course, I would like it to be free. :vD

I was wondering though, If the Avatar is around for 1 turn only, why would anyone use it's ranged ability (and singing spears)?  This is not a complaint; the ability is "fluff-on"

Also, I see that Aspects are still 175pts. Is that a permanent change now?

The 175 is a cut-n-paste error, Ulthw? Aspect Troupes are 150.

Will be corrected next version.

Sometimes your opponent wins the initiative and moves their forces away from your Avatar.

Or you can just try and kill it in a firefight before it gets to activate :vD

edit: oh wait, he has a *shooting* attack... probably what Tiny-Tim said then.

I will playtest the 3.3 list the next time I play Eldar and post a batrep, just as long as I don't get comments about my Biel-tan paint job.

The Spear of Khaine looks... vanilla.  On the surface it doesn't look overpowered in any sense.  I simply don't know if I'd pay for 50 points for an extra attack on a unit that stays on the board for a single turn.  I could see it being an interesting addition if the Avatar persisted (such as in a scenario) but I just don't see it 'wow'ing me even in the best circumstances as it stands right now.

It seems that if you are going to add something like the Spear of Khaine it should have some extra voomf! to it.  Maybe a ranged attack of 15-20cm to go with it?  Although I really haven't given much thought as to what kind of attack it should be or how effective.

I don't even want to think about the level of complaint I'd be getting if the SoK was free!  *laugh*  I may drop it down to +25 points if no one takes it at 50... it's just supposed to be a small special bonus, nothing game breaking.

You can use the Avatar to support other assaults with Its firefight value... in the turn you summon it, you could attack with Guardians with the Avatar supporting, then attack with the Avatar, move it to someplace else with hit-and-run, and then attack with yet another formation with the Avatar in support... that's a nice load of extra MW attacks.

Addtionally, as a War Engine, the Avatar will almost always get to use the firefight extra attack in addition too all Its other attacks.

Also, I see that Aspects are still 175pts. Is that a permanent change now?

Well, it's still being discussed in this thread, but most seem in agreement that 175 for Ulthwé is a good price.

As I said in an earlier thread, even the Court of the Young King should have way more "voomf!" to it... it's a freaking squad of Exarchs!  *laugh*

Warlocks aren't *that* tough, so I didn't want to go overboard with it... just supposed to be a nice extra.

Would some sort of psychic power help?

Point well taken.  But 50 points still seems a bit high for something that is around for one turn.  I'd rather spend the 50 points on two Exarchs to be honest.  I'll playtest it though and see how it works.

I agree that 50 points seems a little high... but I'd rather over-cost it as an option than undercost it and be forced to raise it... just seems easier on people to accept reductions... *laugh*

As well, adding the SoK to the Avatar may make you use Him differently, so you may get the value out of it...  use the Avatar for support *before* using Him as a strike unit.
