There's skulls on it?

About 400.

Ah... erm.  Hmm.

I'm sure that there is professional help available for the poor sods in Nottingham who are suffering from this bone/skull/spike fetish.  We might all want to chip in and buy them a few psych visits.  I wonder if the DSM-IV has a page just on GW?

There's skulls on it?

Yes. And covers to place over them if you don't like them

What exactly happens to all the other bones? Everything 40k/fantasy/table is slathered in skulls, so presumably there are an awful lot of headless skeletons laying around somewhere.

AFAIK this is not true.

You'd have to putty up the ditches filled with skulls yourself.

His conclusion is that if you cost in materials and your time then its a similar cost.

Only if your time is almost worthless.

How many hours at minimum wage would it take to make the boards?

One guy on warhammer.org decided to make his own version of the board:

Money Spent: $84.89

Time Spent 17 hours, 50 Minutes

Yes, I saw it in my recent W/D(which BTW I won't be re-subbing to after 10 years. Nothing in there I can't see online and the only G/W game I play is Epic.)  The board looks nice, but once again, G/W missed the target ... again ... And if E&C is correct(and I don't doubt it), if they spent that much on R&D, they are pretty out of touch ... But I could be wrong ? 8v)

How many hours at minimum wage would it take to make the boards?

How many hours does it take to make the GW one playable at the same standard?

Still missing the point of this thread thou.

Hi,
Actually taking into account the time spent on making your own table, you reach a very similar price.
84$ + 17 hours of work is I think more than 300$.

Tha said, what I don't like about the table from GW, is that it is not flat, so you have to use the same terrain. I think it would have been better if they did a flat terrain board that you can add things modular to it.

My own take is that I started building a table for myself, but it is not easy for me to do as I don't have pink foam readily available here so I decided to use foamcore.

I'm taking lots of pictures, and if it will be ok at the end, meaning if a table turn out of my efforts I will post a full tutorial.

Cheers,
Eyal.

It's really hard to put a price on that 17 hours though.  It depends alot on the individual.

When I made my ash waste board, it admittedly took alot more than 17 hours, but I loved every minute of it.  It was fun.  It was untold hours engaged in my chosen hobby, not thinking about work, or bills, or the million other things you have to think about as an adult.  Rather than asking how much my time was worth, think about how much I could have spent to get that many hours of enjoyment.

In the end, I had a nice (well, I like it) modular gaming board that works as well for 6mm as for 28mm.

Now, if you don't enjoy that sort of thing, then yeah, you can say this is taking up time I could use for something else.  It's very subjective.

The board looks nice. Not flexible enough for my taste, but if someone got very little hobby time and/or not a lot of modelling skills then by all means go ahead and buy it.
It is a good point though, that what you are buying is just the board. You still need to paint and flock it yourself, which is by far the most time consuming part of building a DIY board as well.

I'm tempted to turn this into my signature.
