Citadel Gameboard Competition :agree:

How to Win

1. First you'll need to buy a Citadel Gameboard (or ask for one for Christmas).
:sigh:

Are they referring to the $300 terrain board?

When Assault on Black Reach was released (whee!), the local GW store had a raffle, so Yen and I attended. Beforehand the manager was addressing the crowd about upcoming releases, such as Chaos Knights, Wave 2 Ork plastics, and the plastic gaming table. When he announced the $250 price we all just sort of looked at each other with a "Are they serious about this?" look of incredulity.

Of course, later it became $290.

Now, now, there's a market for these.  It's the same guys who buy the GW tape measure, the GW Super Glue, the GW basing sand and the GW H2O brush cleaner.

I'm reckoning that releasing this board (With a reported R&D price of almost $1 million) was a pretty poor move by GW; Something simpler, and more inexpensive, would have sold like hotcakes, by comparison.

Maybe something like Geo-Hex?

I was more thinking pre-flocked MDF/flat plastic tiles.

Kids are lazy, they don't want to paint a whole table.

Maybe something like Geo-Hex?

Which sometimes can't handle having heavy minis placed on it. I had a BattleTech figure smash a hole in one of my GeoHex hills.

The table is a full 4' x 6' table with geomorphic terrain so it can be assembled in any order, has hills, a destroyed roadway and is structurally reinforced so that it can take the weight of a 250lb man and not break.

I know you all like to immediately cr*p on GW but there is no way that most people could build anything like this even for $290.

Which also includes the carrying case and the rubber clips to secure the table parts together.

Its a steal. If I had the money I would buy one right now.

Now you may not want one. And you may not have the cash for one, but there is no way that this is not worth every single penny. I have seen one in person and it is fantastic.

Yeah sure, as long as it's fully supported by a 4' by 6' table underneath.
And those having that, can just as well use a geo-mat and some books for hills under it.

Apart from that you're missing the point here.

And apart from all else, it's a fairly nice 28mm terrain board.
Yes, 28mm. Those skulls would look fairly silly under 10mm or 6mm models...
..and yes, I've seen it, touched it, handled it and realised that for those quids I can make something better and more versatile. But that's me.

Having seen on in my local GW I'm not sold for Epic really. Nice board for other games but the hill is too large or not really helpful for epic. Its certainly thicker than I thought it would be.

Interesting thread on warhammer forum Modular board projectwere a memeber is seeing if he can make a similar board for less. His conclusion is that if you cost in materials and your time then its a similar cost.

About 400.
